    Pros

    Jefferies has a very nice culture of welcoming new members. Mid-level management is extremely competent

    Cons

    Upper management in divisions outside of Investment Banking don't seem to believe in the company, always justifying that their ways are better because they were done in Goldman. The S&T divisions are poorly structured, specially for interns that often have nothing to do for weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Create more (better) structured programs for new out-of-school employees and avoid trying to claim you are just like Goldman Sachs. S&T upper management supported the view that this is not a good place to work, specially out of college.

    Pros

    Management's current mindset on expansion could present opportunities for financial services professionals looking to shift their current roles to a different company.

    Cons

    Continually heard from management how Jefferies was "special" and had a "uniquely different approach" to financial services compared to the traditional bulge bracket firms. In truth, it has all the pitfalls of larger rivals (uninspired thinking and leadership, internal politics) without the benefit of their expansive institutional scale and resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    There's nothing wrong with aspiring to grow your business and expand your market imprint. It's a commendable aim, and when implemented correctly with true vision and out-of-the-box thinking, there is the possibility for it to be a real drawing card for quality talent.
    Unfortunately, Jefferies has adopted an uninspired approach in attempting to gain grown on its competitors. Poaching new employees through lateral moves from rival firms and adhering to the traditional Wall St. "groupthink" that helped cause the 2008 crisis will accomplish little in a contracting industry where all participants are fighting for diminished profit margins.

    Great work culture and excellent benefits and programs for employees and their families. Opportunities to grow in house and vertical mobility.

    Cons

    Financial Services Industry is going through a lot of stress with the excessive amount of regulations. Pressure to perform is high and turn around times are long.

    Increase entreprenaurship culture. Continue to increase focus on technology grow and simplification of processes. Try to foment cross sale between Investment banking and other areas.

    Pros

    They like to hire people from top firms. So it is easy to negotiate for a large salary hike when you join. But don’t expect too much afterward. Working hours are decent.

    Cons

    The cash bonus clawback policy was supposed to apply to all, but some seniors get away with that, and leaving the lower level employees have to pay back when they leave. If you leave, you will have to pay back your last years bonus!

    Your direct manager reviews your emails, Bloomberg chats, and internal chat system every week.

    They like to outsource a lot of functions (not just those typical ones that are widely known). You won’t be surprised if one day they tell you that you will continue to do what you do, but no longer their employees.

    Stop being so hypocritical, You are not a big boy on the Street, and you will never be!

    dropped me after 5 years with no severance pay. Said i was at least going to get health insurance for another month and tried to screw me on that also.

    Pros

    People generally very understanding, hours very reasonable for investment banking, senior leadership very approachable (would sit in VP+ offices, calls, etc.), not too much cutthroat competition

    Cons

    Deals after fairly small, spent a lot of time chasing down <$1B deals. A lot of pitching. A bunch of very senior people from other firms who aren't used to working in a lean environment. Budget cuts seem random
