I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Reputation of consistently delivering on customer expectations. Often hear from customers that JCI are great to deal with.

    Cons

Australia business is very conservative and traditionally have taken very little risk in emerging markets, pefer instead to follow trends as opposed to being the market leaders they are well positioned to be. Do not leverage extensive global expertise very well. Geographical structure creates challenges to service large national and multinational customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Business revamp to better suit customer changing needs by adding value and providing solutions to their business challenges. Products focus and transactional mentality needs to change to reposition JCI in the marketplace as a service and solutions provider

Current Employee - Project Manager in York, PA (US)

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Even in an area that is notorious for its lack of diversity, this company actively seeks to diversify its workforce. I notice a truly ingrained culture of growth through promotions within and people who really do stay with this company for 20+ years being the norm. This company is truely global and is continuing to grow.

    Cons

The only con that I see is the compensation is a tiny bit lower than average competing companies in the area for similar engineering skills and this is the main reason there is any attrition at all (primarily among younger people who don't understand the value of a steady business). I wouldn't let that hold you back, its a strong company with a true commitment to conducting an ethical business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue allowing employees access to training, industry conferences & continued education and people will continue to be happy.

Former Employee - Intern in Milwaukee, WI (US)

I worked at Johnson Controls as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Open to new ideas. Employee empowerment seemed to be something they value. The work environment/layout is flexible.

    Cons

The main con I noticed was the integration of communication/organization, or the lack thereof. It seems to be too many ideas not thought out or fully communicated among all departments that may be affected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strive to become more integrated and organized with the planning and implementation of new operations.

    Pros

Worked with a great team that knew what they were doing, the benefits were good and got paid every week.

    Cons

None except that the company decided to cut my department and centralize it back at corporate. I don't blame them, they are trying to find ways to cut cost.

Current Employee - Senior IT Analyst in Holland, MI (US)

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexible schedule for family. Safe, clean working environment. Employees taken care of. Employees get a bonus almost every year as long as the division had a good year.

    Cons

Hard to move up in the company. Lots of changes in the company right now and that makes employees nervous about their future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know your employees and reward the hard workers. There are some people who don't seem to work as hard or care as much as others.
