I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Liberty Mutual is a great company. I worked with them for several years and had opportunities to grow and be promoted, but if you get to high up, then they want you to relocate to Boston and if you don't then you are accepting a lower level role or you are taking severance pay. They also offer great benefits including a pension plan, which is unheard of these days and a good amount of vacation time, but that depends on your work if you can take time off.

    Cons

Senior Management is constantly changing as members are moving to various positions within the company. Too much of this change causes a great deal of restructure and realignment which gets old after a few changes. My former senior leader has now retired and that was a blessing to the entire company and am sure that the group is being more properly aligned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much change can make a company not be as exciting to go to work everyday. Allow for more opportunities for promotion in the field and not require all major openings to be based in Boston. I understand the company is over 100 years old, but come on, we are in 2015 and technology allows for others ways of communication without sitting in Boston.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

New business commissions, recognition trips, 401k and pension

    Cons

Renewal percentages. After 10 years you don't see a huge difference year after year even in the top tier, and constant change of comp plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing comp plan or pick a good one, management should be held accountable there is no turn over on management even on clearly bad leaders.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Fortune 500 company
    Competitive pay
    Friendly work environment

    Cons

People have long tenures and become complacent
    Status quo is expected
Progressive thinking is not always welcomed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers need to be trained how to manage, being good at your job does not translate into good management. Some managers have been allowed to exist in silos creating varying corporate cultures in individual groups, which do not align with the overall culture of the firm.
