I have been working at Lockheed Martin

    Pros

Good company to work for and the job tasks are interesting with the support of talented individuals.
Strategic direction is solid with the backing of the US parent company.

    Cons

Quality processes can be lacking in some areas and need to followed by many employees.
Due to rapid growth a new work site is seriously in order.
Middle and uppermangement tend to make decisions behind closed doors and decisions are usually reactive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to listen to your engineers. They want to help if you support them. You career incentives need are good looking at because they dont exist, leaving a fairly unmotivated employees.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Like-minded employees who are easy to get along with.
-Good benefits such as getting educational degrees paid by the company.
-Work-life balance: flexible working hours and plenty of vacation time.
-Up-to-date technology: Using Visual Studio 2013 and .NET 4.5.
-Good freedom to work on different projects within a program.

    Cons

-Good employees aren't acknowledged as much as they should due to the deep management chain.
    -Raises are too small.
-Sterile work environment: basic cube-farm with little accommodations for employees and no place to relax and hang out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make things more interesting or fun for employees, e.g. look up Google's work environment.

Former Employee - Senior Systems Engineer in Moorestown, NJ (US)

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging tasks. Worldwide travel. Cutting edge technology. Flexible work schedule.

    Cons

Advancement of unskilled engineering professionals to technical management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more time in current employees, whom have vast amounts of experience, and have been instrumental in Lockheed's successes, versus (overly) focusing on hiring and promoting new, very young talent.

I worked at Lockheed Martin as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great company to work for, they give you meaningful projects and don't make you feel like an intern. Very organized intern program, given a supervisor and "buddy" on the first day to help ease the transition. Everyone is very helpful and treat interns well.

    Cons

Low starting salary unless you get into leadership development programs.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are identified as a high contributor you are treated well. Decent benefits, very good work/life balance most of the time. Never said no to a vacation and the experience has been very good upt ot his point.

    Cons

Most of the leadership is progressive with their attitude towards the workforce. Some is not. So sometimes I have found it difficult to fight the balance between walking a politically correct type approach and a get it done type attitude. I don't know that this is company specific, just something that struck me as odd.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Internal and external education support and plenty of internal advancement opportunities presented to those who care to pursue their career.
9/80 work hours with every other Friday off was a great perk.

    Cons

Massive size of company can be daunting for those who aren't proactive. Existing policies can deter some new ideas.
Company success tied to government political relationships which vary regionally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to pursue and share long range strategic vision internally to keep the spirit alive.

    Pros

Competitive pay and benefits. Great technical advancement opportunities.

    Cons

Clearance requirements. Work is generally focused on Government opportunities and business cycles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The centralization of all reducing the specific technical areas is broad skill base and set of ideas that have made Lockheed successful in the past.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great experience and opportunities to learn and grow. You get to solve tough problems that help protect our great nation. You have the opportunity to learn and excel in disciplines including engineering, leadership and project management. If you are driven then you will have an opportunity to excel.

    Cons

Since our primary customers are in defense our opportunities are tied to defense budgets. As defense related budgets contract so will opportunities. Every industry has ups and downs so the question is how long will this downturn last.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember to support employees that are willing to take on challenges and opportunities outside of their comfort zones. There are people who do their best to fly under the radar and would not go an extra inch much less an extra mile. If someone is willing to get into the game and engage but stumbles or falls support them and they will go through a brick wall for you.

I worked at Lockheed Martin (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The large size of the company creates the possibility to move around to a large number of different programs and projects.

    Cons

The detailed visibility of new product/programs/required skill sets that you need to take advantage of this massive company is not always easy to find.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be fantastic if the skills that are used in one part of the company could be mapped into other divisions so that people could easily see where they fit elsewhere in the corporation. In this way, people may be more apt to stay with LMC in another area versus feeling that they have to leave to experience different products and challenges.
