I worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center as a contractor for more than a year
Pros – Staff is helpful and friendly. Many opportunities for career advancement due to the size of institution and diversity of jobs.
Cons – Very hard to get a permanent position with MDACC by just applying online. I suggest getting a contract position with a temp agency. MDACC has alot of contract employees. Many contract employees are ultimately offered permanent positions.
Advice to Senior Management – The process of hiring employees needs to be quicker. It takes too long to get feedback on applications.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Working with the best of the best in oncology research; approachable faculty; co-workers from every area of the world; competitive salaries, beautiful surroundings (buildings/furniture), top-notch equipment.
Cons – Recent change in leadership (president) who is reworking how things have been done. Wants to commercialize. Lots of changes from the top-down. Not everyone is happy with the changes. Also brought some bad press which dedicated employees are having a hard time getting over. Also since a state agency it is difficult to fire low-achievers and high achievers are overburdened.
Advice to Senior Management – Recognize the efforts of the dedicated, long-term employees; look at experience more than letters after someone's name. Rate work ethic higher than the degree that someone has.

I worked at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Decent benefits, work with lots of smart, dedicated people. It is very rewarding to help so many patients in need. TRS retirement is great benefit, if you can sick it out.
Cons – MDAnderson, you aren't the only place in town. Get real. High level managers in it for themselves have discarded the core value: INTEGRITY. You still have many hardworking, dedicated employees to keep the place running, But even patients are noticing how you have slipped. Now it's just business. That is very sad. I am not interested in returning.
Advice to Senior Management – Integrity, Caring and Teamwork has to start at the top. and be expected of ALL. You ave too many in high levels who abuse their power over others. MDAnderson, you are headed in the WRONG direction. Get your high level managers to practice what you preach and treat employees and patients right.

I have been working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Tuition reimbursement; insurance; parking; healthy food options
Cons – management; micromanaging; want you to work 45 hrs without flex time; for a promotion you can only get a 15% increase at max of your current salary (which usually puts you at the minimum range of the new position). Staff is underpaid and management is overpaid; bonuses and rewards always go to upper management, rarely is it given to staff. High turnover rate.
Advice to Senior Management – Staff also has a family to go to on the evenings. There is apparently something wrong when the turnover rate is high in the departments.
– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
