Pros – good benefits, decent people on the whole, tuition reimbursement is nice as is the cohort program ONLY if you are pursuing a degree related to healthcare.

Cons – rigidity in advancement, micromanagement, highly specialized which can be disadvantageous to older employees or employees that have time constraints that hinder educational opportunities

Pros – There is a lot of exciting things going on at MD Anderson. I liked the fact that I was permitted to go attend one of the many lectures and seminars that are going on a daily basis by the center's experts and guest speakers. I would have loved to keep doing it, but it is hard to make it. I left the job to go to pharmacy school.

Cons – Some of the bosses use you for cheap labor and don't teach you anything along the way. Try to get into a laboratory where there's a graduate student that is willing to show you some things. Some of the work can be pretty repetitive. But if you show initiative, your boss or mentor will probably allow you to run a couple projects of your own. Also, it takes awhile to advance in the company, and the pay is not always good. As a research assistant, you could eventually work your way up to lab manager, but now days it seems that they are looking more and more for MBAs and PhDs to run the lab.

Cons – Slow salary increase and some politics.

Pros – Prestigious place to work. MD Anderson has a very knowlegeable and professional staff. The people who work here tend to get along better than anticipated.

Cons – There's a bit of an "I'm older, so i know better, do better" mentality with some of the employees that can be annoying.

Pros – incredible access to patient volume and diverse array of resources in terms of translational science collaborators. Good support administratively Gym in the Pickens Tower is an amazing benefit

Cons – State mentality makes it difficult sometimes to get things done
too many layers of bureaucrats managing those of us who actually produce

Advice to Senior Management – Diminish layers of bureaucracy
Promote physicians as decision makers, not MBAs
Realize that our fundamental strength is in clinical care and then leverage that through innovative collaborations with scientists; not the other way around.

Pros – The facilities were far above average. The caliber of your peers and active research programs were highly regarded. A lot of effort was made to encourage collaboration.

Cons – Compensation was below average. Work-life balance was not a priority of my direct supervisor. Large size of institution makes travel times to different areas long.

Pros – Good employee health benefit, great reputation that will look good on your resume, good security team makes you feel right at home

Cons – management needs to pay more attention to their employees, we have a life and we wanna help but dont take all that for granted!!
