I have been working at Magellan Health full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Excellent PTO and benefits, challenging environment, great colleagues. Company has a good strategy for growth if they can execute it. Has lots of capital available for strategic purchases to support growth initiativies.
Cons – Very tight budgets with too frequent layoffs. IT backbone (I-Series) is dated and company is hesitant to risk a replacement and prefers to patch it rather than fix it.
Advice to Senior Management – Find ways to move employees around company without showing talented associates the door. Senior management is getting too top heavy again and that impacts the company's ability to hire staff to actually service the customer contracts. Seriously consider new Clinical/Network/Claims system to bring company into the 21st century. If that is done well, desired staff reductions (reduced admin costs) could occur without business impact, in fact, service should improve. Spend some of the available cash to fund this!
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – good salary, good benefits, paid time off
Cons – repetative nature of the job, boredom, and seems like company is very TOP HEAVY. Seems unreal that Renee Lerer got 4.2 million cash reward right before Magellan loses 20% of our overall business (Arizona contract)
Advice to Senior Management – lay off the big bonuses. Share the wealth! I got a meesley 2.91% raise. That won't even cover Obama's taxes on my pay.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Management in the first few years was great; balanced workload, pleasant team members, satisfactory salary, work-life balance great. Never expected to work extra hours without notice - usually a month's notice before large projects were due.
Cons – After bankruptcy in 2003, slew of middle management laid off and I was ricocheted around from group to group with no clear direction in my career path or expectations for my position.

I have been working at Magellan Health as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – This company has nothing that is good about it. They lie to their employees, they cut your pay for no reason other than the share holders need more money. Nothing good about this company.
Cons – They cut your pay for no reason, they give you no paid time off, you can never get a raise, you have no vacation, no sick days, absolutley no benefits. They call you, tell you have 48 hours to accept all their pay cuts or you will be replaced. The hire you, give you a contract, then break the contract so they can hire someone else that they can pay less money so that their shareholders can get more of the governement contract money they receive from the MFLC program. This company needs to be audited. Has to be one of the worst companies I have ever worked for other than Health Net. They do not care what type of workers they have, it is a horrible horrible company. I would never recommended ANYONE work there.
Advice to Senior Management – Try thinking about someone other than yourself.

I worked at Magellan Health full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Wonderful Co-workers - In the past was very team oriented and goal oriented.
Cons – Local upper Management is unethical at best.
Advice to Senior Management – Take out the trash in Nebraska - Start at the top and work your way down. Corporate office was made aware of the stuff happening at this CMC and did nothing.... Lip Service at it's finest.
This used to be an awesome, highly productive CMC, now it's shameful.

I have been working at Magellan Health as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Able to help families. Travel
Cons – MFLCs are unable to discuss with one another or outsiders the gross mismanagement and bullying behavior of supervisors. Company pays contractors (MFLCs) late on a regular basis, lost checks, 2.5 months late. Deceptive practices. No commitment to the welfare of Military families as evidenced by their actions. Poor ethics.
Advice to Senior Management – Re-think the goals of the MFLC program- you are contracted to help military families. You can hire any employee to fill a position, but it takes a leader to attract and build a quality team of providers.
It is obvious, you verbalize to MFLCs the conversations you know could bring a lawsuit. Employees know more than you think. You are bringing down the program- less continuity for military families. Best employees leave.

I have been working at Magellan Health as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Will build your frustration tolerance. Good interim job.
Cons – Have waited 4 months for a paycheck after many unanswered emails. They lose, delay and deny as an excuse for mismanagement. Treats employees poorly. Employees must keep quiet about massive problems if they want to work. Contracts poorly written.
Contract employees must fulfill obligations of full time employees with no benefits.
Advice to Senior Management – Build better policy and systems and hold your middle managers accountable. Quality breeds quality. Leadership training is needed. In the long run people are important and they are the face of your business.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time for less than a year
Pros – No pros with Magellan Military Life Counselor.
Cons – 6 Paid Time off Days that can only be used for holidays and sick days.
6months assignments or less
Average Health benefits.
No vacation.
Low pay for professional and licensed therapist.
Forced to participate in their 401K which you are vested with 3 years. You must opt out of the 401k.
Magellan MFLC employees don't get the same benefits as regular Magellan employees.
Advice to Senior Management – MAgellan MFLCs need vacation and more PTO days to have a an optimum quality of life and be more effective to services members and their family.
