I have been working at Maimonides Medical Center

    Pros

Great Union Benefits, some consider the salary better than in other hospitals.

    Cons

Too much hypocrisy between Management and Senior Staff that has been there for more than fifteen years. Senior Staff that has been there for more than fifteen years being allowed to do just one area of the job, and if a staff member is sick, on vacation, etc..... Management will not distribute the work amongst the staff so, the work is completed.
In addition, if you speak another language besides English, you are expected to translate when you were hired you weren't asked if you spoke another language.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You may want to learn the jobs of all the staff to cover those areas if needed. Also, workers who can speak, or write another language Union and Management need to negotiate a contract that pays the staff a differential percentage then staff who only speaks English only.

Many good worker-bees/some middle mgrs, but 1 of most greed-driven, dysfuctional, irrational upper management ever

I worked at Maimonides Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many decent, kind, hard working worker-bees only attepting to get jobs done, w/very limited resources. My area had a few great middle mgrs.

    Cons

Good workers continually undermined, sabotoged by the worst upper mgmt. Scheming, irrational CEO & many other of the same 'yes-men' dept heads despite reality that things sure to end badly. This organization has make very bad, questionable, unexplained (possibly illegal) finincial decisions resulting in financial disaster. This includes on-going firing/departure of tons of good workers past 3+ yrs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean House starting with CEO who should have been 'retired' many years ago. All remaining mgmt, should immediatly start being openly honest, regurarly informing thier respective staffs ot the state of the organization...good or bad They're currently a complete failure at such leaderships functions. A warning to anyone considering employment at many of the depts in MMC should be aware, no matter how great a job you're doing, be advised this greedy organization will fire any non-management worker without reason and it will happen with less then hour of warning late on a Fri. Same mgmt then pretends the firing never occured. Do they really believe this is a sound strategy? This behavior is nothing more then personal greed, petty politics & thier own useless CYA games, This 'strategy' is clearly going on to-date in order for a few overpaid upper mgmt hacks to cling on to thier high priced jobs long past thier past due date.. There've been credible reports MMC will be swallowed by some larger Health Care organization, as they continue to bleed red ink for the 4th yr..

After these unexplained disapperanes, rest of affected staff only becomes aware when co-workers vanishes week after week.. Unless drastic changes are made at the top of this 'food chain' and those who remain in positions of real power over others are even capable of dramatic change, sadly this organization that sincerly has some great potential will not survive, at least in it's current form much longer.

    Pros

Benefits, great colleagues and short commute. Cultural diversity and serious commitment to ethical practice. Great learning environment with an open perspective on critique and suggestions for improvement.

    Cons

work load which is in part due to new medical practice laws and pushed by insurance companies and Medicaid. The bureaucracy is maddening.

I have been working at Maimonides Medical Center full-time

    Pros

I think Maimonides is trying to grow and develop a more open culture, but for now the pros include: decent salary and benefits, strong community ties, and it is one of the most successful independent hospitals in Brooklyn

    Cons

There is a lot wrong here. A lot of the staff have been here for 10 years plus and are not the most welcoming to new hires and there isn't a lot of structured training. It is a sink or swim environment. I think upper management has good vision, but they don't necessarily have strong, well thought out plans to carry out that vision. There is a lot of lip service to investing in growth and development, but not a lot in place to make that happen. Only sign on if you feel confident in figuring things out for yourself. Also, Boro Park is desolate neighborhood to work in

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more into staff development! There are so many dedicated people who have become disgruntled over the years because they feel unappreciated.
