I worked at Marriott full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Perks such as room discounts for yourself and family. Fun environment with engaging people. Always get to see and possibly be a part of a new beautiful property.

    Cons

Less appreciation for hourly associates. They know you are replaceable. With the high turnover the high standards do not remain consistent throughout the property's lifetime. Franchised properties do not have much contact with corporate and therefore it is difficult for an associate with corporate aspirations. Career development and upward mobility is slow, even with the high turnover. Outside considerations are seen more valuable than internal growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat all associates with respect and they will work longer. Give holiday gifts.

I worked at Marriott full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There were plenty of hours for work, some of the staff were really cool. The guests were fantastic, some of the managers were nice. Lots of training.

    Cons

My boss hated giving me time off. We focused more on pleasing management and not the guests. My boss worked 40 hour shifts and was very difficult to work with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be more transparency between lower and higher management.
