    Pros

Good Salary and benefits. High level knowledge of peers and overall consultants. Very defined products and services.

    Cons

Very political relationship with the traditional business area. Not really consulting...more of a added value service to clients.

    Advice to Management

Bring in people with a strong electronic payment industry background

    Pros

The CEO is an amazing leader as well as many of the people holding senior management positions. They are incredibly intelligent yet humble. Diversity is absolutely embraced and the right person for the job is hired regardless of gender, culture, age etc. The culture is polite and everyone treats each other with respect. The employees are very sharp and know all aspects of the payments industry. The company embraces innovation and is a leader in emerging payment models.

    Cons

The company is very top heavy with too many people in middle management who really aren't working. This promotes a country club like atmosphere. There is a huge gap between the senior management team and the people who actually get the work done. It's the business leaders that do all the work without reward or recognition. If you want the easiest job in your life and get paid a lot for doing nothing go for a middle management position at MasterCard.

    Advice to Management

Get involved. Learn what's really going on. Conduct skip-level reviews. Promote the people who are working hard to bring innovative products to market. Make middle management accountable. Get out of your glass houses and get to know the people who are doing all the hard work. These are the people that will make you successful not the bureaucrats in between.

    Pros

    great brand, good benefits

    Cons

Huge gap between salaries within same career level.
HR are management extension. you can get promoted without sufficient experience if you got support of high management.
Annual salary increment is almost negligible.

    Advice to Management

Be fair on the salaries paid for the same career level
SBL and above should have limited influence on the promotions decision and salaries increments - at least somebody should be there to double check - definitely not the HR!

Vacation, Bonus are very fat. It respects life-work balance. Promotions are fair.
Easy to move around within the company

    Cons

It can be stressful sometimes. The system is overly complicated and there are few people that have the time to teach you

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Your points-of-view count! MasterCard is collaborative, but not consensus-stuck. Very good work-life flexibility, dynamic CEO, fantastic products

    Cons

Matrixed environment can be constraining. Not everyone is looking updownleftright yet.

    Advice to Management

Force the issue of working cross functionally. Do not leave that to HR to solve. This has to be directed and driven at the business level.

    Pros

Great for graduate or intern to have on resume. Great Brand name and recognition. Good salaries, working environment, and colleagues.

    Cons

The company is trying to make itself into a technology company but this is ridiculous.
The top brass run around spinning their story. The top executives are 'real innovators', mainly lawyers, accountants or ex Citibank cronies.....there's a success. That tells you enough!

They have fired or laid off so many experienced quality professionals in the US and abroad with the goal of replacing these people with younger cheaper staff. It is very short sited.
It is hard to believe they have not been charged with discriminatory practices in the people they fire, mainly female employees and also people 40 and over or close to pension. That's US labor laws!
They post many non-existing jobs. I heard from European colleagues that the jobs do not exist and are never filled. The HQ in Belgium is being moved to London and regions but no one will admit this. I heard the plan is 5-10 years. They make jokes that the President, Javier Perez, must be a ghost because no one ever sees him!

The company does not embrace anyone who does not tow the line and managers at senior level have complete autonomy to get rid of anyone they do not like for any reason. They are fully protected by the HR police or should we rename them the 'firing squad'.

Since the new CEO and his EGO moved in several years ago, all the nice amenities of the company slowly disappeared.

    Advice to Management

Is there enough room in the building for Mr Banga and his Ego!

    Pros

I thought the pay and opportunity for promotion was good.

    Cons

It was a very political environment and how well you did depended on how well liked your manager was among his peers and upper management.

    Advice to Management

Embrace different management styles and not just give lip service to diversity.
