I worked at McAfee full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Nice office environment. Cube farms are neatly arranged.

    Cons

Too many meetings. Some management very title-oriented and treat people below them like minions in how they communicate with them. Intimidation management. My own boss was on vacation at least 4 times in the 5 months I was there, often times leaving things unattended.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forecast better to avoid training people up just to let them go!

I worked at McAfee part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very relaxed culture, pay depends on performance (if you are working in sales), upper management is very helpful with entry level positions

    Cons

Not the highest prestige, personal growth opportunities limited, can get complacent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more strict policies and increase the brand image of the company to draw in better talent

I have been working at McAfee full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good place to work. Focus is always on delivering products which are relevant to the customers.
IDeas from employees get more than fair review. Employees get to enhance their skills by working on projects of thier interest and are also paired up with mentors.

    Cons

There is a fair bit of political maneuvering, especially in the management layer.

I worked at McAfee as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexibility, healthy fun environment to work.

    Cons

Very less projects in MIC India. Management should think about expanding it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase MIC India center. Mostly development kinda work is at onsite.

    Pros

Great management, always made sure to recognize employees' hard work. The possibilities of new career paths and advancements were encouraged and exemplified by if not your own, but your colleagues' career progression.

    Cons

Halfway through my tenure there, enforced policies to adhere to lowering budget costs was implemented. At the time it seemed to be negative, but upon quarter close the % saved was nearly impossible to overlook.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Positive experience in regards to high level executives; really respected the fact that they always made a point in promote internally.

I have been working at McAfee full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The pay is decent, but definitely depends on your hiring manager. The facility is very nice and has a nice cafe The computer provided was a dell and the IT dept. helps very quickly with any technical issues. The culture depends on the organization and the managing executive for that particular org. Overall people leave work at 5, and that's expected.

    Cons

Executive leadership is really bad. It's a good ole' boys' club which disgusts many of the employees. Upper management is viewed as being less than sincere and it's hurting morale across the board. Intel has now accelerated the process of swallowing the wholly owned subsidiary and there is so much change going on, the instability is demotivating. At least 2 rounds of layoffs a year and raises are slim to none.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being sexist, stop promoting unqualified people for personal reasons (i.e. giving jobs to people that kiss up to you or happen to look a certain way) and realize that the people are what make the company ...so worry about morale and take the employee survey seriously. Stop spending outrageous amounts of money on executive entertainment and compensate your people.

    Pros

Pleasant culture and admirable work ethic across the board. Good benefits and overall employee appreciation.

    Cons

None per se, but as always the security industry can be an ever-changing landscape and what is vital knowledge one day can become obsolete the next.

Current Employee - Software Development Engineer in Santiago (Chile)
Current Employee - Software Development Engineer in Santiago (Chile)

I have been working at McAfee full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible with work schedule as long as you contribute. Good teams and very open environment: you can send an email to anyone and get answers without lots of unnecessary red-tape. Inside your team your input is valued. There has been tremendous work in defining better processes and to improve product development cycles. Nice people work there, so working in the office is comfortable. Compensation is fair.

    Cons

Very reduced possibilities to grow professionally. Moving to different teams is overly complicated and not really encouraged. Few opportunities to learn: It is more of a "apply what you know" type of work. Not much job security as there is a constant round of layoffs and people being shuffled around to the project that is "hot right now".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotions are really hard to earn. There is a "carrer path", but it is really difficult to see it happen outside of the India office. Wage increments are below inflation, so we are earning less than we did the previous year.
