I worked at McGladrey LLP as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great people/ team, awesome culture
    - Enjoyed the work
    - Great pay, learned a lot
    - Closer ties to the companies you audit

    * I loved the experience and the people I met throughout this opportunity but I realized it the busy season lifestyle wasn't for me. For an accounting company, I would highly recommend this mid-tier company to anyone going to the accounting path*

    Cons

    - long hours (it's expected of busy season)

    Pros

Have been learning each and every day. It was slow at first but picks up soon after.

    Cons

Pay could be alittle better, but this is the industry average. Salary varies by which office you go to, because they adjust for COLh

I worked at McGladrey LLP as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of learning and great group of people

    Cons

Does not seem to have a standard set of audit procedures. Everyone one has there own special touches or ways they like to see things. This caused some frustration as you moved team to team

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a more standard working paper. Seemed like every team had a different approach. Its a waste of time have to adjust to each senior.

I have been working at McGladrey LLP

    Pros

Flexible time off, upward mobility and promotions, culture is a huge part of the company which is overwhelmingly positive

    Cons

Not standardized across the firm like Big 4, but working towards the same methodologies and structure. Unclear expectations at times because they can feel like management is still figuring it out.

Stay out of the NY Office if you can

Former Employee - Tax Senior Associate in New York, NY (US)
Former Employee - Tax Senior Associate in New York, NY (US)

I worked at McGladrey LLP full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - being able to work with smaller clients
    - using tax software to prepare returns

    Cons

    - office culture in the NY office is beyond terrible
    - demand you commute to the office on the weekends even if there isn't any work to be assigned
    - no AC during the summer months when told to work on said weekends, stuck using a desk fan
    - Management has little to no personality
    - Management gives you the impression they will work with you and train you but once you are hired and started could care less about you
    - health benefits are the worst i've seen in the industry

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The current staff in the NY tax dept now are the main reason why there has been so much attrition. In the few months of my employment I saw multiple managers, supervisors and staff leave because of the culture alone. Does not promote a friendly environment to work in and just makes people want to leave.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
