Better work life balance; no forced transfers

    Cons

Still lots of older executives that equate the old Big 8 to today's Big 4

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on the middle market. do not become a Big 4 wannabe

    Pros

The people are McGladrey's greatest attribute. Everyone is a joy to work with. Work/life balance is better than most. Pay is competitive, but not the best. You get exposed to a lot of the audit file early on, not just bogged down into one section. Plenty of vacation time available to you after busy season and benefits kick in from day one.

    Cons

You work long hours during busy season, including Saturday commitments.

    Advice to Management

Management should compensate and promote at a higher rate to retain talent. But is public accounting, so turnover is typically high.

    Pros

friendly atmosphere with a easy going culture that makes coming to work enjoyable. The offices are set up to encourage team work.

    Cons

hard for a new person to learn during the slow times and there is not always a great source to turn to that would help alleviate the issue beside maybe the on the job training

    Pros

Some good clients and good experiences.

    Cons

No work life balance. Everyone in assurance who has gone part time has been terminated within 12 months of their part time arrangement starting. They brag about their work life balance all the time but will expect you to work 70+ hours a week in busy season and 60+ hours in the off season. If you don't book your vacation on the schedule a year in advance good luck getting time off. Co-Workers are openly rude in order to pressure you to work more than 70+ hours and often tell people they are "Stupid". Managers/Partners have no qualms about telling people they are getting promoted next round then letting them go the next time promotions are announced. They have no sympathy for illness or family situations. When the very few people that have worked here have gotten ill or had a seriously ill family member they are terminated as soon as possible upon their return to work. Don't get sick and don't take anytime off and you'll be fine. Those who are successful at moving up the ranks have no families or boyfriends/girlfriends.

    Pros

Frequent promotions based on performance, a variety of projects and clients to work on. Career adviser is your direct manager whose job is to provide your reviews, but not necessarily be your manager in your daily work

    Cons

Large amount of travel required, the higher you go in the ranks, the more travel there is. Selling is also required past the Supervisor level. Easy to burn out, especially if you have a family.
