Pros – They are spread out nicely around the south eastern united states. They have some nice perks for working in media and have lots of way to help other people.

Cons – They have tons of debt, tons of news papers, and no plan on how to make money. Their is little growth and constant threat of lay offs and furloughs. Internal transfers are never followed up on and would rather hire local less qualified people then keep current people.

Advice to Senior Management – They need a clear plan forward and stop asking employees for ideas or their money.

Pros – Lhigh number of assets to be competitive in the market

Cons – Too many initiatives and constant change. There is not opportunity to see if the current path is successful before more change is implemented.

Pros – They have management that are very good and communicate with their employees.

Cons – The media industry is having a hard time and they have had to lay-off people recently.

Advice to Senior Management – It would be nice to see MG look at each business unit individually and make decisions based on their profitability.

Pros – Make your own schedule. You can relocate pretty easily.

Cons – Commission only, lack or management skills

Advice to Senior Management – Ask questions spend a day with thestaff before you implement new plicies new technology new ways of doing things. You know common sense!

Pros – At one time MG was a progressive company but has now lost it's way.

Cons – Media General is struggling financially because of the heavy debt load and the down turn in the newspaper industry.

Advice to Senior Management – Complete review of how the company has been divided, especially the newspaper division. It is not working.

Pros – You get gifts, sick days and a lot of vacation days. very laid back

Cons – The board that controls the company is not the best.

Pros – The best reason to work at Media General is meeting fellow coworkers who mistakingly took the same position you did thinking they might set the world on fire. The job also comes with a certain amount of freedom.

Cons – Laughable pay, always on call (blackberry,) TV and newspaper media are dying - Media General too late to notice. Management arbitrarily hire from outside. No respect for older employees. Little vacation time.

Advice to Senior Management – Quit making up ridiculous positions to find friends a job. Realize TV and newspaper are the past.

Cons – Working early morning hours at any day.

Advice to Senior Management – Hire more positions so that the job is not so stressful.

good communication from corp

Cons – very aggressive with contracts
advertising dependent, leads to job cuts in lean times
very newspaper focused
requiers lots of paperwork for reporting

Advice to Senior Management – i think management does a good job managing the company. The decline of newspaper circulation has really hurt the company.

- good experience in the field
- ability to transfer to other properties within the chain

Cons – - economy causes leadership to place low value on journalists and content
- rampant misogyny
- constantly changing goals prevent solid foundation for action

Advice to Senior Management – Cutting content won't win back readers or investors. You need to find a way to reach those you aren't reaching rather than self-mutilating the company to try to survive with a dying audience.
