I have been working at Monsanto Company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great co-workers/relationships, good compensation package for new employees, lots of opportunities for growth/advancement, great tools to get your job done. Good internal recognition for achievements.

    Cons

Very top-heavy on management. Lots of bold decision making and direction changing that can run roughshod over the career plans of an individual. you will spend as much time documenting the work you have completed as you will on actually doing the work. As a breeder, you will earn much less over the course of a career here than with some other companies because there is no connection between sales of your product and your salary (profit sharing is done at a very high level and in a freakishly obfuscated system, no royalties for your products, even if you sell multi millions). Also, you need very thick skin to work at Monsanto, especially in lefty-leaning locations, and you will lose friends and family members who disapprove of your career choice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Choose a core focus, and allow people more realistic timelines to achieve those goals.

I worked at Monsanto Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They offer competitive pay and nice benefits including all kinds of insurance, employee discounts, training opportunities, and retirement savings plans. The people genuinely care about one another, and are, as a general rule, friendly and professional. Safety is paramount, both at work and at home. They care about good work/life balance.

    Cons

The IT division uses a matrix reporting structure - a team might consist of developers, testers, analysts, business folks, project managers, and a technical lead, all of whom report to a different manager; it makes for a difficult time when everyone is working towards different goals. The rewards system is also a bit screwy - it's performance based, but your bonus might suffer if someone else has a more positive impact on the business than you.
