Current Employee – been working at Morgan Stanley full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great Brand
Good Systems
Great Location
Nice Offices
Good access to other departments
Global foot-print
Cons – Little to no support for lateral/ inter departmental movements
Poor compensation relative to industry
More work load, smaller bonus
Have not had a pay rise in 3 years (nor has anyone in my position)
Glass ceiling - you cant move up...
Political nightmare
No Recognition - partly due to the fact your manager has no idea what you are doing
Quicker to suggest exploring job opportunities externally than to assist internally (not isolated incident)
No clear requirements to progress - consistently changing progression requirements
Losing clients due to poor credit rating
No advertising is Australia - most people don't know our division exists!
Icing on the cake - in performance reviews, they cannot give all high performers 'exceeds expectations' because they have to follow a bell curve. Low pay relative to industry and no recognition.
Advice to Senior Management – Identify and recognize talent.
Pay people what they are worth.
Help people with their career development - its the only way to retain driven/motivated people.
If an employee wants to move divisions, and they have the qualifications, help them!
Do not shift the 'goal posts' that some one has been working hard towards - I am not the only one that feels this way.

Current Employee – been working at Morgan Stanley
Pros – Global reach, good for front office.
Cons – IB pigeon hole culture. Person with the right skill set in Ops cannot move laterally.
Advice to Senior Management – Be more flexible in terms of mobility for people with the right skills to move around.

Current Employee – been working at Morgan Stanley
Pros – A low benchmark by peers means it's relatively easy to do well. Pay very well for median performance and even better for great performance. Some charismatic leaders. Leading user of technology. Global standardised accounting protocals are a tribute to the great work by Trevor Harris and Vaughn Harvey.
Cons – Highly political, although that's the norm for the industry. Global approach means a lot of boring travel. Research has been emasculated in recent years. Hedge fund clients now run the strategy for the securities division. Poor IBD deal flow makes it harder to get corporate access.
Advice to Senior Management – Remember what gave a franchise in the first place ... the business is too broad and poorly focused.

Current Employee – been working at Morgan Stanley
Pros – Training is good, and support staff is ok.
Cons – Even though is a great training opportunity, their FA Trainee program is extremely short with a vast amount of info that is impossible to assimilate in weeks. They would place FAA on production when you still dont know anything, and expect you to bring the assets necessary in order to make the goals. A sophisticated investor can smell a rookie from miles away.

Current Employee – been working at Morgan Stanley as an intern for more than a year
Pros – Friendly, knowledgable people at Morgan Stanley. From my short experience, there is a general willingness to help one another and no hostility among teams and workers.
Cons – The system is a bit complex, and it there is a lot of red-tape to get through in order to be registered for access to a program or a particular aspect of the system. The process may take several days or weeks if you are not persistent.

Pros – I worked in technology at MS for 8 years, and think it's a really nice place to work. Easy going environment, and if you are good they take care of you!
Cons – If you are just average in terms of skills, don't expect to see much raises or bonuses.
