    Pros

    A great group of coworkers, good systems and processes, motivated employees who value teaching you your function and the CPG business, good cross functional work environment, decent 401k and pension plan, overall good health benefits (although my last 3 years there, they really cheaped them out and raised premiums while doing it). My advice for those joining Nestle, maintain close networking ties with peers who leave, Nestle looks great on a resume and your former peers will be an asset when you get fed up of the poor pay and work-life balance.

    Cons

    Total Rewards are way below market, I was able to find an equivalent lateral job though a former Nestle peer making 30k more a year in base alone. Also career development as a manger in most functions is predicated on your ability to relocate every 2 to 3 years, if I ever opted out of being relocatable my career development would have come to a screeching halt. Also the work life balance at field sites in management is out of control, your basically working 24/7/365.

    Fair warning, the new CEO, Paul Grimword (a Brit) is a ego manic who believes all the American management are useless. However he and his hand selected European Sr. Leaders have only overseen the deepening decline of the business that is a not a result of mismanagement by his well liked American successor, but likely a result of the bloated corporate structure that is slow to change and innovate. All this has really eroded the corporate culture.

    Find ways to promote development with out requiring relocation, improve total rewards to increase retention, also improve work/life balance at field sites.

    If you do not start at Purina, you probably won't go to far up the corporate ladder.

    Pros

    You're never bored, there are plenty of opportunities to move up if you're willing to relocate, you'll be exposed to a wide variety of initiatives and different programs.

    Cons

    work/life balance is questionable at best and non-existent depending on what's going on in the factory you work in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    communicate better and involve the supervisors in decision making more. If you come up with a plan without the input of those who will be implementing those plans, then you will never be successful.

    Good place to work as an hourly employee. Lots of opportunities to learn new jobs, good people to work with.

    Not a good place to work as a salaried employee. There id no home work life balance.

    Career path for very few..usually European associates. Supervisors not responsible for mentoring or career pathing

    There is no easily discernible career path. Managers have been there forever and are not leaving no matter how much or little the contribution to company success.

    Pros

    I loved interning at Nestle because I was given meaningful projects (not just admin work that you can get piled on you at other CPGs), great people, great salary and housing packages available, and a great environment to work in.

    Cons

    One of the things I would have liked to see more in an internship is a focus on leadership development and opportunities post-internship.

    This is a very well managed company, and people are professional, minimal politics compared to other work experiences, work is challenging and many opportunities for training and growth

    Pros

    Every day is a challenge because processes change daily. The office temperature is reasonable. The facilities are mostly well kept. Lazy employees get paid to spend their days socializing and complaining about their workload instead of tackling it. The managers here are all micromanagers, so no worry about doing your job wrong, they'll watch you do it and then follow up that you did it. If you are friends with the right people, and you don't rock the boat, you can have a long career here.

    Cons

    There are micromanagers and politics galore here. Don't bother coming here unless you specialize in butt-kissery. They hire and promote friends over more qualified candidates. Nearly all office positions are exempt. They don't know what exempt actually means, so a common saying here is that you're hired for a job, which includes the phrasing that the job includes any and all other tasks as assigned. Thus if you are great at your job and get done timely, they will find more for you to do, rather than letting you only work 40 hours. They do this so you're forced to work more than 40 hours per week every week for only 40 hours of pay. They deny this during interviews. There is really high burnout and turnover here, whether it is actually quitting or moving laterally or demoting. Everyone wants out of certain divisions within NBS (except the shady butt-kisser favorites who do well there). Don't expect to be paid or treated fairly here.

    Stop promoting the least qualified candidates and paying the lesser qualified employees more, just because they spend more time socializing with you than the high achievers with their nose to the grindstone do.
