I have been working at Netflix full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

money. lots of it. i will enjoy it while it lasts cuz i know it won't.

    Cons

zero career growth. never-ending stream of unwarranted terminations.

management is incompetent. they treat people like dirt. human resources are clueless and don't provide any value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    your culture of fear
    will cost you, my dear

    you’re generous with severance
    but lack basic reverence

    you think you are smart
    but it’ll all fall apart

    your stock’s at a summit
    but soon it will plummet

    and then you will wonder
    gee, where did i blunder

    so, please bear in mind
that it pays to be kind

    Pros

Freedom and Responsibility from the culture deck is true
Super smart people that love what they do
    Awesome brand
    Compensation is top of market

    Cons

Things move quickly; sometimes hard to keep up
High performing culture means there is pressure, but deliver rather than worry and you will be fine

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As we grow we need to consider other means of communication. Memo's are great but we need to find more efficient means of communicating.

I have been working at Netflix full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work if job security isn't a big consideration for you. They have very little process. The work is challenging and interesting no matter which team you are on. Excellent remuneration plus perks like free food and transportation. Colleagues are not stunning as they claim but pretty good.

    Cons

No tech ladder for engineers. Every engineer is a Senior Software Engineer. Promotions are reserved for management roles only.

There is little to no job security. People are terminated if they are perceived to be doing anything less than a stellar job. To be fair, this is in their culture document. The problem is that it's not easy for anyone to be stellar all the time. Even great performers have their bad days or phases. That makes everyone vulnerable and at risk. Past performances don't count for much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reevaluate some aspects of the culture. You may be losing out on great candidates because of the culture of fear and the absence of a technical ladder for engineers.

    I worked at Netflix

    Pros

Good compensation.Free coffee. All very smart people.

    Cons

Company policy is written clearly. They fire you the moment you are not extraordinary.
Layoffs everyday for weird reasons.Once you are used you are thrown away. For international candidates with H1 and stuff it can cause real problems switching H1B visa quickly so definitely not worth the risk.
For citizens it can be ok if you can work 24*7 and want a handsome salary in return.Although if you are talented you may be better off joining a startup with some nice stock options as netflix stock has already risen so much so net appreciation is not that great now or worse even go down.
For 25-30K per year its not worth the stress and your health.Better join a startup for better work as well as better chances of stock appreciation.
Unlimited vacation policy mean zero vacation as if you take vacation you are fired.
All smart people and culture of fear mean they conflict over every line of code you write and will try to put you down for everything and make sure you are not performing better than them.Toxic environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its not a startup anymore so it does not have the same charm or stock. Also your work is pretty ordinary as compared to google , facebook or linkedin etc .Think before you say that we will hire every employee better than the previous one.Why would the better employee join you instead of joining a startup or a more peaceful or better culture.

    I worked at Netflix

    Pros

It's meaningless to list pros for this company. A single con trumps all the pros you can ever have. Read the Cons section carefully.

    Cons

You will be fired by your incompetent VP on trumped-up charges. VPs can only hold on to their jobs if they get rid of good people directly or indirectly under them on a regular basis. No valid reason is needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show some guts. Fire your incompetent VPs too. Why do you even have your HR department? What do they do exactly?

I worked at Netflix full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - When they discard you like a used rag, they will hand you a good severance
    - Well-known brand, so everyone outside thinks you have a great job. Only you know how badly it sucks.

    Cons

    - Never-ending Russian roulette. Sooner or later you are toast. In the period that you survive, however, you will see your colleagues getting fired for no particular reason.
    - They're proud of their culture of fear.
    - No career growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - You reap what you sow. You are generating ill will among your best current and ex employees.
    - You claim to dislike golden handcuffs, yet many of your employees continue to work there solely because of the high salary even though they despise your callous culture of fear.

I worked at Netflix full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of freedom and autonomy. No nonsense around things like expenses, vacation, etc. Just be professional and make sure you're helping you're team be effective and pretty much everything will be okay.

    Cons

Since you get near total autonomy, figuring out just _what_ to do can be challenging. You have to consider options carefully. It's also easy to get a bit of imposter syndrome since you're working with some of the very top names in the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep it up!

Only thing I would maybe change is to add a bit more emphasis on the importance of building personal brand and a bit more transparency about how compensation review works.

I have been working at Netflix full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good salary. Free food. Shuttles. Generous with equipment and severance.

    Cons

This company does not value its employees. They have terrible people-management at the top. Leaders, right from the very top down to the managers, take pride in firing subordinates. HR, or Talent as they like to call themselves, are good for nothing and are there to help the leaders in carrying out the firing.

What the other reviews say about the culture of fear at Netflix is 100% true. Leaders are never required to work with an individual to understand the reason for a delayed schedule or a genuine mistake. The culture encourages leaders to be trigger-happy and rewards leaders who ruthlessly fire individuals, giving them no chance to course-correct.

Once a leader decides to fire someone, which happens all too often at this company, HR and leadership are giddy with excitement. This is the moment they live for. Firing someone is a noble thing, they feel. After all, they are releasing the poor individual from their agony. In the eyes of the executives at the top, firing demonstrates decisiveness and strong leadership on the part of the leader.

That's not all. Most of the firing, over 90% of it, is unwarranted and unfair. Individuals that were once stars are suddenly found to be bad and worthy of discarding. In most cases, it is because the individual has fallen out of favor with their manager for whatever reason. Usually the reason isn't serious enough to be considered grounds for termination at any company. But Netflix isn't just any company. They pride themselves on their culture. The culture of fear. You can smell it. It stinks.

Dear job-seeker, stay away from this company. You have options. Go work at a company that values its employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no advice for you, Management. My only advice is for job seekers. Stay the hell away. The money isn't worth the stress.

I have been working at Netflix full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Known brand. Good compensation. Little to no process. They move quickly. Free lunches and snacks.

    Cons

They are not interested in helping grow the careers of their employees. Their philosophy is to hire and retain superstars, give them challenging problems to solve, and pay them very well without having to deal with the career growth or welfare of their employees. Many fall for this BS culture, which is used by the company to justify getting rid of its employees regularly. They fire, without good reason, the very "superstars" that they had hired just a few months or years ago. Directors and Vice Presidents are constantly occupied in CYA tactics and throw their managers or individual contributors under the bus when the heat turns on them for something.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's much too easy for Directors and VPs, without accountability or proper justification, to deflect blame by getting rid of someone under them.
