    Pros

They'll throw money at you to entice you. Their benefits and bonus structure looks very inviting on paper. They do have a quantum of honesty during the interview process. Typically in the form of a question that goes along the lines of: "How do you feel about working with a bunch of jerks?" Do not mistake this for a joke.

Like anything in life, there are diamonds in the rough. There are a some there with great technical talent who are also wonderful human beings.

    Cons

The most dysfunctional organization I've ever seen rife with hostility, and harassment. Sink or swim ethics. Talented people being fired over personality mismatch and not actual performance. Complete technical dishonesty from senior management when dealing with customers. They will lie about cost and schedule then drive both up once they have a PO in hand. They will treat your organization the way a big company like Lockheed or Boeing treat the government in terms of cost and schedule. But unlike the government your company doesn't have an unlimited supply of money. They offer absolutely no return on investment. Their facilities are vermin infested. Expect ants to invade your desk and to find rodent feces in your cabinets and shelves. A lot of the senior staff don't do any work. The workload gets dumped on new hires and contractors, many of whom are pushed out or leave within a year. There is extremely high turnover. If they seem desperate to hire you, run away as fast as you can.

    Advice to Management

Start with a clean slate. Have senior directors who actually manage. Topple all the little kingdoms and depose the Junta made up of lower level staff who seem to run the place. Its really embarrassing that this organization drives off very strong technical talent over the word of a few who in many cases don't even have the dignity of an engineering degree. Because of them the organization is hemorrhaging talent, customers and earning a reputation in the industry that isn't flattering.

    Pros

As someone just starting my career in recruiting, I couldn’t have been happier with the onboarding program at The Newport Group, or the continuous support from the management team.

They provide in-depth and ongoing training that helps to prepare you for just about anything – and in this business, you need to be prepared for everything. It’s a very fun and relaxed work environment, where the practice leads and senior management are invested in their employees’ success, and it’s definitely a “work hard, play hard” type of culture. I think the best part of working here is having the freedom to be myself in this business/role. They aren't breeding a bunch of robots. Though they’re fairly strict about metrics and call time, they encourage creativity and individuality in the process, and allow you to build on their training and mold it to fit your style, which helps you get comfortable and has helped me succeed here.

    Cons

    None that come to mind

    Advice to Management

My best advice is to continue fostering the growth of their employees and staying tapped-in to thriving markets.

    Pros

Many of the people are good at their jobs.

    Cons

The leadership are out of touch and don't walk their talk. It's all about the stockholders and the people come dead last.

    Advice to Management

Walk a mile in your employee's shoes just for a day. You are out of touch. All talk and no walk breeds cynicism and people's morale is tanking.

    Pros

401 K Match is above average. They pay you. Have a nice HR department. Free instant coffee water. Easy to be the smartest person in the room.

    Cons

No options for personal growth, if you are liked by your manager they can decide to stagnate your growth for their own personal gains. Middle management is incompetent and should be fired. No interpersonal skills from all of the managers. Favoritism is more important than individual performance. Lacking in proper structure and rules are not enforced. Product design is inferior and not worth the prices. Corporate mission is to buy companies and send product overseas to maximize their profit margins. Will close a product line if profit margins are to low.

    Advice to Management

Employees should be treated as an investment not a cost figure. If silicon valley is to expensive move the company to another state to improve your profit margins. Moving a product overseas is the worst idea I have seen yet from upper management due to the complexity of some of these products.

    Pros

Newport is involved in many different industries, and offers diverse opportunities for different disciplines. The leadership is always looking toward future growth and expansion.

    Cons

Since some of the markets Newport serves are cyclical or volatile, some divisions or positions can be vulnerable to market trends.

    Pros

Industrial leader in many advanced technologies.
Lots of experts with many years of experience that are willing to teach.
Relax working atmospheres on most days. Good balance between work and personal life.
    Competitive 401K matching.

    Cons

20% of the employees accomplish 80% of the work.
Divisions do not easily share resources due to conflict of interests.
Very little room for career advancement.
Below market average in terms of compensation.

    Advice to Management

Too many mid-level managers. Set long term goals instead of focusing on short term profit.
