    Stuck in a rut

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Calgary, AB (Canada)

ProsGood compensation and benefits. Nice gym in the head office. Compressed work week option.

ConsManagement is driving this company in the ground. The morale is very low. There are lots of changes that are driven at cost savings but here chasing dollars to save pennies and that's because management is weak. The changes being implemented are not going to save the company. They need to need to be more receptive to changing processes and stop doing business with itself.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more open to change and put your ego aside. We are too too heavy and need to look at changing how we do business as a way to save money rather than cutting small things like catering.

Consminimum additional rewards for superior work/efforts, advancement is difficult, lots of middle management, tons of big company policies/politics.

Promotions happen only if you are in the right team, otherwise your career will be stagnant and rot

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Fort McMurray, AB (Canada)

ProsPay is good, best commute in the oil sands

ConsThey prefer to hire from outside the company for many leadership roles. Management does not understand the job scope of those who work for them. Low morale. Sometimes it is a toxic workplace. Talent does not say. It does not matter how hard you work or how competent you are, middle management does not notice or care. Unless you are an operator or a male engineer you are stuck in a dead end job. They like to put retirees in leadership roles.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust the people who work for you. They will be great leaders. Promote from within do not hire externally when you already have good talent. Get with the times, be modern and more flexible or talent will always leave you.
