    Pros

-You can slide, if you know how to hide, play politics, or both.
-Run like a bank; they can divest any business unit simply at any time
    -Jiminez is outstanding

    Cons

    -Politics
-Highly fragmented across geographies and divisions
-Benefits aren't that great, particularly in the US and for a healthcare company
-Women rule the US due to a 2010 gender bias settlement. Google it.
-Limited mobility. Lack of promotion or even lateral movement - you're pigeonholed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the talents of your individual employees. Embrace change. Foster collaboration across boundaries and cultures.

Former Employee - Contractor, Marketing in East Hanover, NJ (US)
Former Employee - Contractor, Marketing in East Hanover, NJ (US)

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Exciting pipeline. There's also the desire to be innovative and try out new approaches even if they're not being used elsewhere in the pharmaceutical industry.

    Cons

Broken processes. Too much time in the marketing area is spent in ensuring compliance with FDA regulations. I think smarter processes can result not only in a high level of compliance but also in more time to do the core parts of the job. Also, rolling layoffs introduce constant uncertainty into the workplace.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See how much time your people are wasting on bureaucratic tasks and improve processes to address the situation. Also, pick an organizational structure and stay with it for awhile.

Former Employee - AREA SALES MANAGER
Former Employee - AREA SALES MANAGER

I worked at Novartis Pharmaceuticals full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for development if you are the driver of it. Very good benefits. Still some good people at the company.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic, structured. Two components to performance management. 2 ways: Objective (sales results) and Competencies (Values & Behaviors) Almost impossible to exceed competency expectations. Not enough internal support anymore, and what is there is mostly outsourced. Lots of leadership changes. Most of the senior leaders have no experience as a rep/manager/director

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Not sure it would help.

    Doesn't Recommend
