I have been working at Novell full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - Senior Executives "get it"
    - Going private has provided a longer term strategy rather than focussed on what the shareholders want this month
    - The new Novell allows for greater focus and specialisation
    - Product direction is receiving very positive feedback and reaction
    - Small enough to be more agile, Large enough to compete effectively

    Cons

    Analysts do not like Novell
Still hear, "doesn't Novell just do NetWare?"

I have been working at Novell full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - Work life balance (though now it is changing at faster pace)

    Cons

    - Poor compensation
    - No Growth in the company. Financials of the company are in downtrend for long time
    - No new products. Living with legacy products (maintenance license revenues) which can't continue forever

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Think welfare of employees. Management has moved to take care of Shareholders/Private investors than employees. Customers stands in-between.
    - Needs to understand the geographical needs/customization in policies, benefits, etc. Management works in one size fits all mindset.

I have been working at Novell full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very relaxed work environment, fantastic benefits, family friendly, free gym, great food at the cafeteria, tons of paid time off. New leadership seems to be moving the company in a good direction.

    Cons

Lower pay than average, just about no opportunity to move up. Everyone I talks to wonders if I'm fearful for my job because of the company's history. Novell isn't a new up and coming company in Utah.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit training your competition's employees. Give your young talent a reason to stick around. This company needs new blood to invigorate innovation. Give employees opportunities to make their mark on the company. Give people a reason to make cool stuff again.
