I have been working at ON Semiconductor full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

People are generally knowledgeable and helpful. Many opportunities to make things happen if you are willing to put the work in. Salary can be good.

    Cons

Not strong in quality systems. Bare minimum to keep automotive customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to promote innovation. Recommend that there be an innovation intrasite developed where innovation requests and innovation ideas can be posted to enable connections for the sole purpose of directed innovation.

I have been working at ON Semiconductor as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

No much work pressure compared to TI or other start ups. Do not need much extra working time. There were little job for me to do everyday when I had the internship there. And 70% of the employee left work at 5 or 5.30PM. More time for yourself.

    Cons

Can't see opportunity. Do this job for the rest of your life. Too many meetings for a design engineer which makes it little time for design considerations. The company don't focus on technology, they focus on marketing: buying and selling companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more time building up the atmosphere.

I have been working at ON Semiconductor as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Depends on your manager. If your manager allows, you can possibly work on different project and gain more experience. it's always good to network there and ask to work on projects more relevant to your interests while keep working on the ones you are hired for.

    Cons

Being a semiconductor company more opportunities for IT and CE guys than CS guys.

Current Employee - Engineer in Gresham, OR (US)
Current Employee - Engineer in Gresham, OR (US)

I have been working at ON Semiconductor full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with in engineering
    No dress-code
    Generally casual atmosphere in engineering
They appear to be growing strong and have not had a layoff or furlough in a couple of years

    Cons

Poor labor practices in manufacturing operations (long temp-to-hire process)
Poor review, promotion, and raise structure
~50 hours per week mandatory (poor work-life balance)
    Overly compartmentalized
Slightly below industry average for wages and benefits (and getting worse: health insurance gets worse every year, raises are very small)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a reason all the other companies in the area are picking off your experienced engineers: you can get paid better, and get better benefits anywhere else.
The 10 month delay between review and raise/promotion is a mockery of the review process.
Try respecting your employees a little more. You make them work hard enough, why not reward them when the company is doing record business? If this is how good it gets when the company is doing great, I would hate to see it when the company is taking a downturn.
