    Cons

micro-managed by DM, long hours, very limited payroll budget, training program needs work, LP department does not support the stores

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

work on training program; work on a true work/life balance, LP department needs to focus more on controlling shrink than for basic operational standards

I worked at Office Depot full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The organization, and the supply chain in particular, are very mature with a healthy appreciation for continuous improvement.

    Cons

Capital investments were very carefully considered and only approved after many rounds of detailed analysis and justification. The legacy WMS system was not something that translated into value for other organizations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to recruit and develop talented individuals that will help take the organization into the future.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It's not hard labor. There is a lot to do. You learn to multitask. We use radios for communication with other employees. Commission opportunities. It's a job.

    Cons

The pay is low. You start at minimum wage. Raises come once a year and it's no more than a 3% increase. In 2013, December 25th was the only day that my store was closed. Copy and Print associates do a lot of work and deal with customers in droves but they make the same as everyone else with far fewer opportunities to make commission because they don't have the opportunity to sell tech services and replacement plans.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Employees in store are cool, managers try to work around school schedules

    Cons

Upper management isn't the greatest, dumb policies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The stores operate without micro managing them, and not every store is the same. Different rules for different stores

I have been working at Office Depot full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people and culture were bright spots of worklife at Office Depot and resources supporting employee success were a top priority pre-merger.

    Cons

Limited career advancement opportunities and cultural changes due to the recent merger with OfficeMax have resulted in a decline in organizational resources and talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many layers of management cause delays and gaps in communication. Talent assessment needs to be a top priority. Personal accountability is lacking in many departments.

I have been working at Office Depot full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Hours are never too crazy and they will help you grow if you're willing to put in the work and make it known that you want advancement. The new standards for customer service really help to enhance a person's ability to understand the needs of others and to think outside the box.

    Cons

Need to work on training and how information is passed down. Corporate sometimes makes it difficult to try new things because of the strict rules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow up on promises. Work towards developing training that will be easy to follow through and that is up to date.

I worked at Office Depot full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's a large company, so it can open the door to other large companies. The pay was pretty good.

    Cons

The work/life balance is tilted more towards "work." I was applauded for working late. Expected to check your phone and email at all hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better figure out something else to be good at other than office supplies; else the company is doomed to mediocirty and a slow, but sure decline.

I worked at Office Depot full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people and sense of community. Great company culture and cool activities. Manager was fair and allowed for a good work-life balance for his direct reports. Salaried positions come with 2 weeks of vacation pay (below director level) and once you've been with the company for 5 years you get an additional week of vacation. Concerning 401K, the company will match 50 cent on the dollar up to 4%.

    Cons

Unclear direction from management and above. Company is struggling to recover since the recession and trying to reinvent itself to survive the new economic environment specially as it relates to tough competitors such as Amazon and Walmart etc...Too many internal reorganizations and no true focused long term plan.

I have been working at Office Depot part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Opportunity for commission and bonuses, ability to be in a specialized area, customer experience model is efficient

    Cons

Copy & Print very stressful at times, not a lot of cross-training, inconsistent training, quick turn-over

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This store specifically needs to be redone so that checkouts are not part of the copy and print department. It is very stressful working up front as a CPD associate and errors are made because it is impossible to keep the needed attention on the project at hand when one has to ring up customers every few minutes. Associates should be trained in more areas so one does not feel trapped in one specific area and for general flexibility.
