Ogilvy Sydney - going through growing pains

Account Director (Former Employee)
Sydney

I worked at Ogilvy & Mather full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe people, as in many agencies, are great - pretty much across the board (with the odd jerk)

ConsOpportunities seemed limited; some 'ol' timers' rusted on and never to forsake their positions of comfort

Still feeling the stain of the change from Singleton Ogilvy and Mather - culturally and structurally

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep going - keep pushing - but do much more to recognize its the people inside the business that drive success

A university for the ad biz

Account Supervisor (Former Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I worked at Ogilvy & Mather full-time for more than 3 years

ProsI started my career here in the Chicago office and worked for several years, working my way up the account side. The breadth of experiences I was offered were amazing. If you're willing and take the reins, you can get any kind of experience you want across disciplines, clients, and offices in the global network. The strategic output of the agency is top notch, and "we sell of else" is lived up to.

ConsIt seemed sometimes like creative leadership was lacking, and the work occasionally suffered. Promotion and raises within are very difficult, with WPP usually being cited as the reason.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote your good people and compensate them fairly.

Excellent place to work

ACD (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL (US)

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time for more than a year

ProsSome of the nicest people I have ever worked with. Great collaboration between above-the-line team, shopper and digital. Great work has come out of this place.

ConsSpaced is limited. Ogilvy is growing so much we need more room. Also takes some time to get a raise - aim high for your starting salary.

Advice to Senior ManagementHonestly, we need more room. More conference rooms and space to create.

Ogilvy was a great place to learn and grow as an entry level associate.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather

ProsOgilvy PR in Beijing is a strong company with a good staff. The president, Scott Kronick, is a great leader.

ConsI think it takes a certain kind of person to succeed in this office in Beijing. You must have a strong love for China.

Motivated, Fast-Paced, but lacked collaboration

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Ogilvy & Mather as an intern for less than a year

ProsThe "culture" is great, very optimistic and enthusiastic about Ogilvy and their founder. They know how to have fun at work during happy hours or after hours and on weekends.

ConsLack cohesiveness across teams.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to the work interns do and their enthusiasm, you should hire all of them at the end of the summer.
