I worked at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people, as in many agencies, are great - pretty much across the board (with the odd jerk)

    Cons

Opportunities seemed limited; some 'ol' timers' rusted on and never to forsake their positions of comfort

Still feeling the stain of the change from Singleton Ogilvy and Mather - culturally and structurally

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep going - keep pushing - but do much more to recognize its the people inside the business that drive success

I worked at Ogilvy & Mather as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great work environment - laid back but extremely professional and qualified workers who are open and respectful of interns. The internship program consisted of a group of interns to work with and a mentor who gave you assignment and a view of what working there is like.

    Cons

Can't think of any cons other than the fact that your mentor was too busy for your sometimes.

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time

    Pros

There is a positive work environment. The people working here are happy and friendly. The company has lots of important and interesting clients. There is room for improving the company and making an impact.

    Cons

Compensation is lacking. People must work long hours without over time pay or bonuses. There is little continuity between offices.

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Ogilvy definitely has strong brand recognition for your resume, and apart from a few exceptions, you will work with some of the smartest minds in the industry.

    Cons

Lots of chasing your own tail as a team, and the agency is full of egos and big personalities to manage. The organization has become impossible to navigate-- a result of people in the agency trying to 'do their own thing' to half-baked success, and the agency being a yes-man to every single client, undermining a distinct competitive advantage or value proposition amongst different internal teams.

Additionally, anyone there will tell you, high performers get punished-- more aptitude equals more work without proper compensation. The only way to get a raise is to have a counter offer or leave and come back. Really.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage a clear organizational structure, and offer a fair compensation plan based on performance.

I worked at Ogilvy & Mather as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Extremely dynamic workplace, definitely a great place to work with given the multiculturalism in the organisation. David Ogilvy left a culture so strong that it can be felt till date.

    Cons

Culture defers from team to team. As expected in most agencies, working hours are highly flexible. A lot of the time actual hours are spent on meetings that can be unproductive instead of doing actual productive work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR personnel and treatment can be improved.
