I have been working at Ohio State University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working at the front desk offers great connections with management and residents. Residence halls provide a fun work atmosphere. Employees choose their own schedule and work with other current students.

    Cons

Employees are constantly competing for extra hours, making it tough to make a significant amount of money. Most extra hours usually come from overnight shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The less micro-managing you do, the better the employees will perform. Allowing employees to choose their own schedules really helps with work-life balance.

I worked at Ohio State University full-time for more than a year

    Pros

It is easy to do you duties here and there isn't the pressure of sell, sell, sell. It's kinda like a walled off garden that once you get in you never want to leave.

    Cons

The pay is not a competitive as other places but the benefits are good. They won't hire you if you don't have a degree. They only respect their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire the best talent, not the best resume.

The pros of working for OSU are that the institution provides satisfactory compensation, good students, visionary leadership, great benefits, and stimulating colleagues. Overall there are great things going on at OSU.

Trends in competitive funding of the public sector research has made the job of being a professor less enjoyable than when I started in 2000.
