Compelling and strong business strategy, good products & services & commitment to customer outcomes. Good people, who do their best.

    Cons

Line of business silos can make it tricky to bring offerings and people together to focus on single solution for a customer or market. High pressure & political environment. Complex back office that takes time to get things done.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

In theory there are lots of opportunities for the company and as an employee within the company.

    Cons

Bad culture, no direction, no motivation, no drive. Oracle is a carefully crafted financial and acquisition marvel, but horribly bureaucratic, wasteful and political.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Build a worthwhile culture.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Top tier 1 organization, provides the entire IT stack meaning that there are so many vacancies coming up internally all the time and the possibility to climb the company internally is very high. The same applies to cross country transfers. The mindset is strict and tough in the sales space but they can provide intense training according to the location, training that is invaluable for a personal career growth. The company is successful and the product set is usually cutting edge. The style of Oracle in terms of dresses, building and the idea of Oracle is modern, stylish, modern which is pleasant and makes it easier to break into a customer or close a deal because the name of Oracle opens doors. The structure is formal but all is set up rightly and all is documented, all roles are clearly assigned so there is nothing to create, invest and there is nothing to struggle with in terms of confusion or documentation.

    Cons

Oracle means the pressure is on! You need to work hard and sometimes that is not enough. You need to perform, achieve and overachieve otherwise you will not survive 6 months. The environment can be fun or dry according to the location, departments or floors.
The processes can be appaling! Sales reps have to do lots of admin and too much forecasting at times which keeps them away from customer facing and revenue generating activities.
Office culture is serious, you can't show having fun otherwise they are going to think your targets are not high enough, there is no space for having fun, there is space for making Larry rich.
Big con is massive restrictions on salary increases in occasion of promotions. Negotiate your entry salary as high as possible as you won't see your base salary getting increased until you turn into a high level manager. This is a pity as people will tend to leave after a few years. Best is to enter at the management level.

    Make the environment more human

    I worked at Oracle

    Pros

Being part of the vendor's internal team lends tangible credibility to customer engagements. Good people and sound procedures mean high referencability.

    Cons

Internal licence sales teams have skewed view of OCS responsiveness and competitiveness and are thought of as slow and expensive. In my experience OCS is neither.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep seeking closer also alignment with licence.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits. People in front of the customers are top class. They have industry leading products and are the only IT vendor that provides solutions that cover the entire technology stack.Great opportunities for travel and you can move around the company if you have the right skill set.

    Cons

Unfortunately at a senior level within APAC and ANZ some poor choices were made and some very bad decisions made at a strategic level. The push for each line of business to make impossible numbers drives poor cross line of business engagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Larry needs to shake up his global sales management team and get them focused on their customers and not their quotas.
