I have been working at PetSmart full-time for more than a year
Pros – I love as a trainer for Petsmart. Being able to help owners improve their relationship with their dogs and keep dogs out of shelters, I always felt like I was saving a life! I loved having the dogs I trained come into the store and look for me and know exactly who I am. in less than two years, I trained over 300 dogs and im still going! :)
Cons – Because of how many people that enjoy working for Petsmart, its a long wait for a open position for management.
Advice to Senior Management – Learn as much as you can in every department and work hard!
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at PetSmart as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Willing to fly me out to work at their corporate office as an intern, and pay for my summer housing, along with paying me hourly.
Cons – Nothing yet has come up.

I have been working at PetSmart part-time for less than a year
Pros – It's fun to work with the animals and you will learn a lot about pet care.
The customers are usually friendly (as are most pet lovers).
Management is laid back but professional and the coworkers are fun.
They are very flexible if changes arise in your availability. Just submit the change in availability form and they adjust.
Difficult to get fired - you would have to either steal or give out your employee number for discounts to non-employees.
Cons – High turnover rate.
Not the greatest pay.
Lots of cleaning after the animals and dealing with their smells....
Don't always get the amount of hours you would like. A lot of people look for a second part time job to help pay the bills.

I worked at PetSmart full-time for more than a year
Pros – It was a fun work environment. The best part was seeing all the sweet animals.
Cons – It could get very busy, and working late wasn't ideal.

I worked at PetSmart part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – The management and training structure was well defined and efficient- contributing to a knowledgeable and happy staff and customer base.
Cons – The company culture can be lacking at times. They would do well do facilitate bonding and growth through more employee interaction.
Advice to Senior Management – Change store layouts/signage/goods depending upon the geographic area, to make them more appealing to the customers- helps them create a better bond with the store as a brand.

I worked at PetSmart full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Working with animals & people who care for them is rewarding,
Cons – Upper management has little care for animal well-being & poorly compensates associates, especially those who have been with the company longer. Company tries to weed out experienced associates to match the very high turnover in upper management. Very little room for advancement unless you transfer to newly opening stores. Yearly wage increases are abysmal ($0.12 after five years at that store, with previous management experience in another location... horrific).
Advice to Senior Management – Be more familiar with the needs if your customers & the animals in your care. PetSmart is different from other areas of retail, & uneducated & unsympathetic management does not grow the culture PetSmart pretends to strive for.

I worked at PetSmart part-time for more than a year
Pros – Fun and close team, fixable schedule, cute animals!
Cons – Awful management, poor pay, needy and rude customers, mindless work, hard to expand your skills. Before starting this job I read requires.. ALL were bad, and I can now agree with them. Would not recommend this job to anyone except high school or collage students looking for a little extra money. Not a place to build a career
Advice to Senior Management – My managers were friendly for the most part, but were ALWAYS way to focused on everything except employees. Had to ask for my breaks and I still had to wait an hour most of the time.. And that prevented me from getting my end of the day break. They should be more involved with their employees. Petsmart demonstrates an "open door policy" where you can go to a manager anytime about any concerns. I could never usilize this, and my concerns were never adressed.

Pros – FRIENDLY PEOPLE. There are some genuinely nice human beings working within PetSmart and I really can't stress that enough. "Pet people" are good people, and that mostly proves true up until you start dealing with corporate and home office... If your tired of cold, unfriendly retail managers or co workers and are looking for a friendlier environment, then PetSmart may somewhat rekindle your faith in humanity.
Note: I have worked for PetSmart for nearly three years now and at four differing locations and I can tell you that no two store sites are the same. each location has its own culture and "vibe". I have seen them all: the good the bad, and the ugly, so it pays to get to know staff of a store site if you can before working there. It can be the difference between night and day.
Working along side PetSmart partnered pet charities like: the Humane society, can prove to be one of the most rewarding experiences one can have while working with this company. One most keep in mind that all such ventures are strictly voluntary with out monetary reward and must be perused by ones own volition as no member of Pet smarts management will direct you toward such duties.
Cons – Despite the company's focus on pet adoptions, fighting euthanasia, and focus on long term pet health, at its core it is nothing more then a retail company that treats and rewards its ground floor employees poorly. When working at PetSmart, one can come to expect: low pay, no health benefits, constantly fluctuating work hours with no schedule consistency, and little room to move up with in the organization.
Some negative factors are: Low wages (minimum wage up to about $9.50) along with .10 cent incremental yearly raises.
Random, computer generated, schedule that managers are seemingly at the mercy of, no matter how asinine the out come of it is. not only is the employee schedule generated at random, but its often posted late with in the week (like Friday), giving one absolutely no time to plan for family or home life.
Swing shifts are expected to be performed by everyone as well at a moments notice. so for example, you could be working with animals in Pet Care from 4pm to 10pm and then be expected to come back into work at 5am the "following" night and perform stock. For a company so focused upon humanitarian gestures, this move by them is surprisingly" inhuman."
Advice to Senior Management – I have more advice for the company's CEO and inner circle (Corporate) then I do Pet Smarts direct retail managers as I know that they have little to no control over the companies biggest problems and dysfunctions.
Pay your employees more. Any intelligent business owner knows that happy employees are productive employees. We live in times where the cost of food is sky-rocketing and gas is nearly $4.00 a gallon. people can not afford to be strung along on minim wage any longer all the while the world is demanded of them.
Get rid of the use of randomly computer generated scheduling. Nothing could be more appalling or disrespectful toward your own employees then to implement a business tactic that is so disruptive to ones own life and good health.
