Fantastic place to learn world class business practices, but watch yourself

Operations (Current Employee)

I have been working at Philip Morris International full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat people
great challenges
lots of opportunities if you stay within the line

ConsWork life balance is bad
Very competitive environment
no "modern" work arrangements, still office...

Advice to Senior ManagementStop preaching meritocratie when you know it is not. It depends so much on the moods of your boss during talent review... you have developed a process which is over complicated and yet so subjective.

Not a great place to work

Procurement (Former Employee)
Madrid (Spain)

I worked at Philip Morris International full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThey pay above market rates. There are a lot of company dinners and events. You'll most likely get to travel.

ConsThe bureacracy is crippling, there is so much control over what you are doing no matter how low level, you are stuck doing too much administration and you don't have time to focus on the things that are really important.

The best company in Serbia!

Depot Administrator (Current Employee)
Vranje (Serbia)

I have been working at Philip Morris International full-time for more than 5 years

ProsDevelopment opportunities, excellent employee care, company which pushes the boundaries and sets high standards in industry

ConsLarge company where there is often a discrepancy between the sectors. Bad domestic management, especially at the low and middle level. Bad local staff with little loyalty to the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove communication between the sectors. Greater transparency in company goals. MAP process often has no purpose and is more a matter of low politics not the real performance evaluation of employees.

Work/ life balance is not as good as it seems, pays well, mobility opportunities are frequent.

Sales Supervisor (Former Employee)

I worked at Philip Morris International full-time for more than a year

Pros- Chance to work & develop skills in different departments.
- Pays well, above market average.
- Real international environment.
- If you are a good performer and present the right skills for them, you'll be eventually promoted.

Cons- Heedless HR when they are required to manage conflits among employees/ teams;
- If you are a good story teller, you will suceed here. It is important to look important & busy instead of being really important there. Powerpoint, presentation skills and have a good relationship with who really detains power inside make a difference @ PMI.

Advice to Senior Management- Advice for Sales Managers/Directors/ VPs: If you keep the micromanagers inside this area and let them do whatever they want, you will stun the talents who are not willing to be "yes men".
