    Pros

The name on your resume for future job opportunities. That's it. Nothing else. Wish I could offer more positive feedback. Sorry.

    Cons

Everything else. Been horrible since day one.
The turnover rate is so high because no one with any amount of intelligence sticks around for very long. And so you are left with......the scraps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire COMPETENT employees. Do not hire people in a rush just for the sake of hiring someone,
Impossible to get rid of employees who quite frankly should never have been hired in the first place. Very hard to work with people who simple do not GET it.
Also- there is a VERY high focus placed on senior management and above. No attention or appreciation given to those who are lower on the totem pole. HR is there to protect the company, not the employee.

    Beware of the Digital/eCommerce team

Former Employee - Digital  in  New York, NY (US)
Former Employee - Digital in New York, NY (US)

    Pros

Very competitive salaries within the Digital team. Most people are relatively friendly and smart. Looks fantastic on a resume. Inspiring brand heritage. Great 50% discount at RL and CM - with many larger discount opportunities through the year. Early access to all of the sample sales. Easy to fly under the radar, if that’s what you’re looking for. Nice emphasis on volunteering and giving back.

    Cons

The Digital team is a mess. Well over 150 people have left within the past 18 months. It is far too VP heavy, and none of them can get along amongst themselves, which translates into a hostile and competitive atmosphere - think 60% Cruel Intentions, 40% Mean Girls. Just about everyone within digital is miserable, even those who have started within the past 6 months. New hires start out as nice, optimistic and easy-going, but are transformed into defensive, miserable creatures within a matter of months. Culture throughout RL favors pretty boys. Zero respect for ecommerce and digital throughout the larger RL organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Respect your digital business!

    Current Employee - Sales Associate

    Pros

Friendly management, great incentives that follow down from higher up corporate, easy job, value customer service, allow for leadership from sales associates

    Cons

We don't train anymore, so nobody knows how to fold. Since we value customer service so much our brand presentation has been suffering.. aka the store looks like a disaster. Gossip between managers/employees is obnoxious

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't gossip with/about your employees.

    Pros

The training program was great and they did a lot to help the interns. A very corporate environment in the fashion world

    Cons

Very high strung and stressful position during sales times. Little room to move if you did not enjoy your department

Former Employee - Director in New York, NY (US)

    Pros

Everyone seems to have worked at Ralph Lauren. It's a great learning ground. There is a lot of process in place that sometimes results in red tape but overall was a great learning experience.

    Cons

Low salaries. Corporate politics. Red tape. Scarce resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your people do what they do best. Don't micro manage them. Trust them. Once budgets are approved, let people run with it.

Former Employee - Sales Associate  in  Beverly Hills, CA (US)
Former Employee - Sales Associate in Beverly Hills, CA (US)

    Pros

Nice place to make new friends. People are friendly, for the most part, unless however you have a disagreement with someone who steels your client/sale, then it's up to you to fix your problem because management refuses to get involved. They ask that you resolve sales problems amongst yourself.

    Cons

work-life balance is horrible. Random days off. Never get a Saturday, it's mandatory to work Saturdays. Forget experiencing what a weekend is. One week you will have a Tuesday and Friday off and the next week you may have Monday and Thursday. After a while you feel like every day is a Monday. It's horrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are no perks. You are forced to purchase their clothing and wear only their brand to work. They do not provide a uniform, you must purchase everything and they force you to wear everything from their store. Management should treat their sales staff with a little more dignity.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Lyndhurst, NJ (US)

    Pros

Good work life balance (in certain departments), good employee discount, very casual dress code (jeans, etc.)

    Cons

Company is overall very disorganized. Everyone directs you to someone else when you have a question and it's very hard to get any answers. The management in my department is not good at all and I don't feel like I am learning anything. Not a lot of vacation/personal time.

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in New York, NY (US)

    Pros

It is a stable company to work for. I have learned and grown a lot since starting working here. Company discounts are very good. There is positive potential for growth.

    Cons

Time off policy is flawed, not being able to take two weeks of at one time is very difficult for someone who travels internationally for family visits. Yearly pay increases are very low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees comments and complaints and take action. Be more cooperative when it comes to working with employees needs.

Current Employee - Summer Intern in New York, NY (US)

    Pros

The people love the brand they're working for which makes for a better work environment. Your supervisors are there for support and want to see you do well. There is room for growth across divisions. They know how to treat their interns well and really want to see you evolve, taking the brand as your own.

    Cons

Depending on the team, you may get jumped right into project work or day to day assignments. The company uses several software that are not all aligned and navigating some of them can be difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall pretty good program. So much of the program is dedicated to learning about the company and especially your team. Perhaps it would be great to given the chance to meet and network in the beginning of the program as well.
