ProsLeading player in Asia - huge variety in market development/opportunities/challenges as Prudential has insurance and funds businesses in 12-13 markets, from Middle East, through to developing markets like Vietnam and mature markets like Korea and Hong Kong. There are also JVs with major financial groups in China and India. Opportunities for a wide range of market/business experience

ConsPolitics and frequent re-organisations. Some markets/functions have very talented and inspiring leaders/staff, but others are consumed by politics. Office can be very clique-y and gossipy. Also, expected to be on call 24-hours (though this depends on team/boss)

Advice to Senior ManagementMore objective and constructive advice and help with career. Right now, it is hard to generalise the experience because it seems like it really varies by department. Maybe more accountability for senior management would create a fairer and more inclusive environment overall.

ProsGood regional network, federated model so local entities are relatively independent, and yet able to leverage on expertise across the region.

ConsGenerally, local business has poor human resource management with insufficient attention towards on executive training and development, or cross-placements.
Promotions are handed out based on years of service, or to fill out gaps at the top, rather than assessment of an individual's real competency or capability to lead.

Advice to Senior ManagementLeverage on Prudential's global footprint - across insurance and asset management - in order to groom and grow your talent pool.

ProsCan be very flexible around location of work, working from home is acceptable for example

ConsBig organisation with not much devolved decision making power. Tendency towards blame culture prevents people from being prepared to go out on a limb

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you don't have the time to consider the small things, give people the confidence to deal with them on your behalf.
