I worked at Red Lobster part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Able to make decent money as a server. Decent flexibility in scheduling except for holidays. Afternoon and evening/weekend shifts were a good time to work due to the volume of tables.

    Cons

There were frequent management changes. No benefits to speak of. As long as you are there to work hard for your tips it should be ok.

    Current Employee - Bartender

I have been working at Red Lobster part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I grew from a busser to a bartender in less than a year. pay was about $250 a week tips included as a busser than reached almost $800 a week with tips as a bartender during promotional events. huge leap !!!! Family like enviorment

    Cons

Managers were degrading and disrespectful. ive seen the restaurant managers sexually harass and humiliate employees. Very ghetto staff and customers. May have been just the location I worked in but in a year I've been through more disrespect and saw so much vile and wrong doings than any other job I ever had. But I did make a lot of money, I just quite because money wasn't worth me loosing my sanity

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do investigations when employees call corperate because its usually worse than you think

I have been working at Red Lobster

    Pros

Realistic expectations for sales and labor management targets. They really care about the guest experience and give you the tools to succeed.

    Cons

Shaky future ahead in California. Some restaurants barely break even at the end of the year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase traffic while selling higher margin products. We need to stay competetive, not stuck in the past.

I worked at Red Lobster full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Family Restaurant Discount was pretty awesome
    Work environment was very supportive

    Cons

    No breaks, Long hours
    Poor management, poor management-employee relations
Equipment and restaurant was poorly maintained, If it barely worked, it was good enough
    A lot of internal theft

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve employee relations, allow for a better work-life balance. A positive work environment starts with satisfied employees, which will help maintain business. The restaurant was in poor shape because the employees weren't satisfied with their workplace.

Current Employee - Server  in  Lancaster, PA (US)
Current Employee - Server in Lancaster, PA (US)

I have been working at Red Lobster part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As a server, you get cash in your pocket quickly. You are able to switch your schedule around with other servers so you can create the 'perfect' schedule for yourself. As an employee, you get 50% off food on days you worked, and 25% off on days you don't work.

    Cons

Every single weekend is spent in the restaurant. planning weekend activities require a lot of time in advanced. I don't like the fact that if the restaurant is managed poorly, the only people who suffer are the servers because all the other employees are paid hourly or they are tipped out from the servers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick your battles with employees and stick with those battles. Don't yell at me one day for not using a tray jack and the very next day see me not using a tray jack and not say anything. Keep your rules consistent from day to day and from server to server. also, MAKE SURE ALL MANAGERS ARE WORKING ON THE SAME RULES TOGETHER! One manager may allow you to work a double on a saturday, another manager may not.

    Cons

-There is a lot of lifting of heavy objects
-Your feet and body will be very tired by the end of a long day
-The atmosphere can get intense sometimes
-You must be a person that can keep their cool at all times, your patience may be tested
-Sometimes you will have to work long hours, even if you'd rather not
-Endless Shrimp could be a little more organized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please make Server shifts a little shorter with a limit.
