I love working for this company. Everyone is fun to work with.

Hostess/Server/Bartender (Former Employee)
Kokomo, IN (US)

I worked at Red Lobster full-time for less than a year

ProsThey do allow the right people to move forward and advance in their careers.

ConsBeing a server is rough at times cause even at a fine dining restaurant customers do not really know how to tip nor realize that the server lives off the tips that is received.

Grill Master

Certified Grill Master (Former Employee)

I worked at Red Lobster part-time for more than 3 years

ProsWorking in the kitchen teaches you the values of hard work and the importance of team-based work. Great place to work while in college.

ConsTough working conditions (hot, cramped, and standing the whole shift), and co-workers are tough on one another.

Advice to Senior ManagementExpress appreciation of the kitchen staff as they are behind the scenes and tend to get forgotten.

Great brand

Server (Former Employee)
Sandusky, OH (US)

I worked at Red Lobster full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIt was fast-paced, and very rewarding. On the company level it was a great company to work for. I loved the people that I worked with, we were like family. Our promotions helped keep money in my pocket and guests coming back.

ConsOn a local level, some of the management didn't always work with the employees. It made it difficult to do our job to the best of our ability.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider your employees as part of the family, the brand.

Great company!

Server (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC (US)

I have been working at Red Lobster part-time

ProsFlexible schedules, good pay, teamwork motivated with VIP service

ConsDue to the company being highly focused on hours, A LOT more is expected with various cleaning and setting up the entire restuarant before AND after your shift (i.e. opening and closing) and still only getting paid $2.13/hr rate

It's going through a rough time right now.

General Manager (Current Employee)
Salina, KS (US)

I have been working at Red Lobster full-time for more than 5 years

ProsIf the executive team stays in place the company should turn around after the spin off as investor pressure is removed. As many long term employees leave there is a lot opportunity for advancement.

ConsThe company goals have become more investor friendly and less employee and guest friendly. Bonuses are almost non-existent and the work life balance is difficult to achieve. Staffing is becoming increasingly difficult as news of the company spin off is approaching.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus back on a culture based around values. Listen to your people before your investors. Stay staffed so that proper development time can be invested.

Great place to work as a first part time employment opportunity.

Server (Former Employee)
El Paso, TX (US)

I worked at Red Lobster part-time for more than 3 years

ProsFlexibility in hours, overall great camaraderie atmosphere and the employee discount is not that bad as well. The recent renovations made to the majority of locations helped to give a better image to the public. Good college job.

ConsThe menu changes (cheaper items) to try and compete with applebee's, brought cheaper clients only affecting servers. Without mentioning taste and flavor of new items were not that good at the beginning.

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall management did just about the correct amount of work expected from them, although there were 2 or 3 managers that were above average that were overlooked by corporate for better opportunities or career advancement, that trait ultimately filtered to the rest of the structure. So probably recognize and take care of above average employees as a whole.
