Could be a great company

Field Service Representative I (Current Employee)
Oklahoma City, OK (US)

I have been working at Redbox full-time for more than a year

ProsFree movies, laid back atmosphere, somewhat autonomous position, generous paid time off, nice uniforms, wellness reimbursement

ConsRedbox has a "metrics" system in place that is flawed in many ways. Regional managers and above have an "untouchable" or "unattainable" type of attitude. The new route optimization program is ridiculous. One of the reasons I took the position is so I could run my route according to my personal preference. Sometimes life happens and you may need to make a Dr. appointment or pick up a sick child from school. The route op program eliminates any freedoms like that. My opinion is that, as long as you are completing your route accurately and in the time frame allowed you should be allowed to run it as you please. In the near future they with be tracking all field service reps with GPS. I have a huge problem with this. I feel that it is an invasion of privacy. What will Redbox do with this info? Sell it? It is not cost effective or necessary. They claim this will cut costs but we have not been shown how. The reports that are generated from discs loaded in the kiosks are grossly inaccurate. I have been written up twice based on these reports. I keep daily records of all of my daily activities. i.e. how many discs I loaded in to each kiosk, how many discs I removed from each kiosk, etc. The reports very rarely reflect what I record. I hear weekly "Disregard xxx report, it's wrong this week." I am a very thorough person and can guarantee the reports are wrong. Believe me, I am not alone. I think it is a way for the company to avoid paying out bonuses. Long story short, Stay away from this company. It could be a great company to work for but the micromanagement has killed team morale and will eventually be its downfall.

Advice to Senior ManagementChill out. Let us work. Visit with your Field service people and ask them for advice. They are your best resources in the entire company. Be more transparent and hold yourself / each other accountable. Spend an entire day with the field service guys/gals and not just an hour or two. You yourself run a route by yourself. Don't be a paper pusher and be more hands on. Reward hard work. Have an "open door" policy at every level of management. Be nice to people on your way up because you'll meet them on your way down. Apologize when you are wrong. The only correct actions are those that demand no explanation and no apology. Be decent.

This Company Sets New Standards For Micromanaging People!

FSR1 (Current Employee)
Williamsburg, VA (US)

I have been working at Redbox full-time for more than a year

ProsThe company offers great benefits in the form of medical , dental & vacations.
You are reminded of them every meeting!

ConsAs a field rep your every move is micromanaged!
Now they are introducing GPS tracking to watch over the field.
Most of the field reps I know have had their hours cut by 15 to 20%!
They cut full time reps hours & hire in part time, 3rd party & seasonal workers.
This is not a company to build a future with - cuts are happening all over!

Advice to Senior ManagementRe-institute some trust, responsibility & privacy back to the field & you might get moral
out of the toilet!

Started off good, became political and chaotic

Technology (Former Employee)
Oakbrook Terrace, IL (US)

I worked at Redbox full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Good benefits. Better than average insurance. Base pay fairly competative. Bonus was usually above 100%. Nice office space, usually snacks in kitchen. Wellness plan
- Some professional development support. Internal training for manager. Decent onboarding process
- Tries to promote good corporate culture. Quarterly meetings, Holiday party, summer picnic, department events

Cons- Rapidly changing priorities that border on chaos. Everything is "priority 1". A lot of things get done, but get done poorly.
- Too much system knowledge held with only a few key people, many of them contractors
- Lots of internal politics and closed door deals, this has increasingly gotten worse as the company grows
- Weak PMO. Most "ScrumMasters" have no idea what Agile is or how to guide their teams to follow it.
- Unrealistic expectations from the business about when technology solutions can be delivered

Advice to Senior ManagementDefine consistent technology processes and hold people accountable to follow it. Do not promote people based on politics but rather skill and experience. Staff appropriately and allow projects to be completed with quality. Improve communication between the business and technology, there is a lot of ill will generated because of poor communication and rumors. Be more thoughtful about outside hires, don't just hire someone because they know someone or to meet some quota targer/deadline, really see if they are a culture fit. You have some good people working there that are becoming increasingly checked out because it costs too much mental sanity to keep caring.

Merchandiser, STAY AWAY for your safey!!!!

Merchandiser (Former Employee)

I worked at Redbox full-time

ProsOnly pro I could find is the unlimited amount of movies you can watch

ConsHorrible field manager...Unsafe working conditions. Company does not allow employee to protect themselves from harm. Kioks are at some really bad locations. For the little pay they offer, your life is not worth it Most employees carry guns, but the company prohibits any form of protection. If you complain about your supervisor you will pay for it.
Stey away from this company at all costs....

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of some of the managers that have no people skills....Shouldn't be managers in the first place...

Flexible Hours, Good Pay, Self Supervised

FSR1 (Current Employee)

I have been working at Redbox part-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood Pay
Decent Vacation Time
52 cents per mile reimbursement
Working alone, self supervised

ConsUse your personal car to travel from kiosk to kiosk
Working on outside kiosks in bad/cold weather
Part of your review is based on a secret shopper who might visit a kiosk after someone smashed the touch screen or vandalised the machine and it counts against you.
