I have been working at Ross Stores part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible hours (Basically got to plan my own schedule)

    Cons

    Little to no training
.25 cent raise after working there for a year(highest raise given for associates)
    Managers were hit or miss
    Stupid/useless rules
Many workers were lazy and managers did nothing about it. They relied on the hard working associates to pick up the workload

I worked at Ross Stores part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The schedule was very flexible. They always work around my scheduled.

    Cons

    Maybe a higher pay rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. Ms. Sheila Edwards, Store Manager (Store 152 in Tamarac, Florida), and all Supervisors worked as hard as us. She always taught us to strive to do better (Tough Love). While I was working at Ross I learned Team Work. For the first time, I saw how decent, hardworking people gave more than 100% everyday to please our customers.

    Pros

Very flexible scheduling if you're a student and need to find quick part time or temporary work.

    Cons

The pay is very low and doesn't often go up for part time positions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More promotional advancements and care to part time employees.

I have been working at Ross Stores full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work life balance is great!!! You generally report directly to your DM therefore you very seldom have to send multiple responses of the same information to varied individuals that do not communicate with each other. Great place to start your retail career and grow quickly.

    Cons

There seems to be a disconnect between Corporate and the reality of what actually occurs in stores. The ideas and new programs sound good but they seem to be based on very large volume facilities with very little adaptation further down the list. Though the company promotes growth and development there is no clear career path beyond ASM/Store Manager. After the next highest volume ...what's next?

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Every month free food. I have had 5 different store mangers, 4 were nice.

    Cons

    Pay,
    Hours
    Change always changing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a new culture, create a better work/life balance and give these employees more pay or more money. Some of these jobs are all people have to survive.

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexible schedule, easy job to obtain, relatively diverse team, room to move up the chain. Management can be easy to get along with.

    Cons

You'll start at the minimum wage and you only get a raise at your annual review. Higher and full-time positions may be unavailable for a time. You'll be 'strongly' persuaded to work weekends and evenings which are the busiest times. Holiday and back-to-school seasons are nightmares, as in any retail job, but the clientele of Ross are particularly awful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase payroll to allow more hour coverage. The workload is too much for a handful of employees.

I worked at Ross Stores full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Money was decent and health care plan was good.

    Cons

hours kept getting extended and had lots of call outs or NCNS all the time. Never enough associates scheduled to handle workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire from within more often and the stores would be more successful on upholding core policy and procedures.
