I have been working at STERIS

    Pros

For professional salaried employees, the company offers a relaxed, friendly work environment with competitive pay and benefits.

    Cons

The CEO has steadily grown the business by purchasing smaller companies. At times, the company struggles to act as a cohesive whole.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue work standardization efforts.

A good place to start your career... Just make sure you don't get too involved in doing things the "STERIS way".

I worked at STERIS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed their benefit package while I worked there but I understand it changed after I left to the standard high deductible offered most places these days.
    Free coffee.
Job satisfaction: worked with emerging technologies.
    Manageable workload.
I was fine with the pay but others were not.

    Cons

    No flexibility in schedule.
    Poor work life balance.
    Poor management.
    Zero project management.
    Dress Code.
    Low morale.
    Little room for advancement.
    Poor training.

It seems as though mangagement is picked from the existing employees. They take their best person and make them the manager. Not only does this reduce the quality and output of the work being done, it does not guarantee you are actually placing someone into mangagement who would be a good manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The current way your performance is determined seems to have little to do with your compensation. Figure out how to do reviews based on performance. Measure your employees proficiency in their position.

I have been working at STERIS full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Large company with a lot of resources. The name is synonymous with quality & reliability most of the time. Company stands behind it products. Great job for someone new in sales, however training is weak.

    Cons

Manipulation of the quotas and sales numbers. Don't value one of their most important assets the sales force. If you live in a top 20 cities you will need another income for your household. Compensation & salary based on Midwest cost of living.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Saving your way to a $2B company doesn't make you strong. Being innovative, reinvesting in your markets and employees does. Properly Incentives your sales force. You will be surprised how much more profitable the company can be if your total cost of goods sold increased. Competition is always a good thing. It forces us to do our best. A poor comp plan (incentives) renders people complacent and satisfied with mediocrity. Explain in detail how you derived the new FY sales plan. Lastly, be honest.

Service hiring is not carful so you as a sales rep are spending some time fixing issues with service.

I have been working at STERIS

    Pros

Great company with good culture and great people! Many of the employees in my building have been here for years so there is room to grow. If you so desire, STERIS is a great place to start your career and then work until you want to retire which is tough to do in any job market in 2014

    Cons

Their is some turnover just like with any other organization but other than that, there is nothing negative I have come across.

    Pros

Hours are first shift. Overtime is available. Ok place to work.

    Cons

No benefits for temps. You are treated as a number and that's all. Very little appreciation by management. They will hire you to work second shift and take a huge pay cut.
