Former Employee – worked at Schlumberger full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Trully international. Gives many opportunities to get exposure to many aspects of E&P industry.
Cons – Management is lacking vision on how to deal with petro-technical professionals. No or limited control over geographical assignments. Pay nowadays is not that great.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop thinking that there is no life beyond SLB.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at Schlumberger
Pros – good tools, pay is ok if your sent to Iraq or Oman or similar hell hole.
Cons – only worth it if you are sent to a hell hole, even then the pay isnt Thattt good.
When you leave your training their are NO other opportunities, NONE, you will most likely have to do a complete career change. Then the degree you had is close to useless since it will be around 4years since you did it, I personally found myself in this position, my grades were high through uni as well!
dont be fooled
you WILL be worked like a slave
you WILL end up loosing most of your friends due to no contact.
you WILL lose your girlfriend
and you WILL lose the best parts of your youth in a job with no prospects earning what you could have been in a few years any way with a better more balanced job.
Schlumberger pry on the young and greedy fresh from uni they will hang a golden caret in front of you.
they get your youth, the best years of your life, and in return you get some money and a dead end career. Sorry Folks its the truth.
Advice to Senior Management – Management are good, god I pity the poor soles that have been trapped here their whole career, management pay isnt even that good, and the workload gets heavier than at the beginning of your career (yes that might seem impossible but true).

Former Employee – worked at Schlumberger
Pros – High technology
Truly International - One organization that just does not say it. International means international
Great People - May people you will meet at SLB are smart and intelligent - Not all though.
Cons – You are known by your failures.
Extremely scant regard for people. The company is extremely cocky (for some good reasons) that they have a talent pool like no one else. You are simply a number to the company.
Inspite of the international nature of the company, certain nationalities (mafias as they are known in the company) are extremely strong. You better not cross the mafias the wrong way or your career is finished.
Advice to Senior Management – Look at people issues and try to solve them. It is well known all over the oil industry that the company treats people badly.

Cons – Time away from family and friends; management indecisive as to starting times, dates and locations; insecurity in the oil industry in the current GCF
Advice to Senior Management – Make certain decisions about starting times

Pros – SLB is the undisputed market leader. My starting pay was well above that of other graduates in my year group. Plus other benefits, such as health ins. and good super annuation. Training is intense and field work is highly demanding, but this intensity leads to solid experience. FE's are generally only employed straight from uni, so the recruitement process is highly competitive. Promotion of FE's into management is somewhat of a natural progression. Travel is expected and working in remote locations is inevitable for field staff. Overall, a highly rewarding job.
Cons – Requirement to work away from family and friends. The work schedule is unpredictable.
Advice to Senior Management – Opportunity for promotion is good

Former Employee – worked at Schlumberger
Pros – The best parts of Schlumberger are the money, the travel, the training, and the people you meet. Be sure you know what you're getting into before you decide on Schlumberger. And research the segments fully. There can be big differences between them with regards to lifestyle and pay.
Cons – It really depends on where you are based. In some locations, the money is good, and there's rotation or field breaks. In others that are deemed to be not remote enough, you can get less than average pay and have no time off at all. But on the whole, the downsides are: Life outside of work (non-existent), Limited availability of experienced employees, Absence of choice in the matter of your life.
Advice to Senior Management – There should be at least one or two experienced field staff to learn from, and if not, then at least experienced local management. Otherwise it is very hard to be motivated to do the job when there are role models or examples of success around.

Pros – The Travel, The Pay, The excellent Training. The sallary was exceelent, the is very true for a person who has just left their school, collage. If you love travel then you will like this company, many jobs in many diffrent locations - make sure you have a frequent flyer program -you are definiatly going to need it ! and will find it very very useful !
Cons – The Lack of family life, excessive traveling, sometime harless management. Management do not know or care about your life outside of SLB.
Advice to Senior Management – Get in touch with the employees, find out what they want. They are people too
