I have been working at Shutterfly full-time for more than a year
Pros – I've worked here for 2 years, previously at Amazon and Google. Shutterfly has very good management that helps us developers to get stuff done and to deliver value for the company.
Cons – The office is too cold, as in 70 degrees. Everybody wears jackets.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great culture, fun team. Especially in Sunnyvale. The office knows how to buckle down and get a ton of work done under pressure (Q4 is very very busy) but I've never worked at another company that knows how to kick up its feet and have some fun once in a while as well as this one.
Cons – Occasionally questionable product decisions/direction, but it's a minor gripe.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep up the good work--I see only good things in the near future.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I worked at Shutterfly full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Managers are advanced to their positions simply by being there. They are not educated as they should be. Therefore do not know what they are really doing!
Cons – Speaking about Shutterfly Charlotte. Managers simply don't have the education to manage people effectively.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire people with degrees!

I have been working at Shutterfly full-time
Pros – Do not let the retailer category throw you off! Shutterfly feels like a tech company with many of the perks you may expect in the silicon valley- free drinks, snacks, access to dry cleaning. Great company get-togethers. Quarterly bonus! Career opportunities exist for those who excel in the work place- but do not expect a promotion just because you stay here- must be earned.
Cons – Recent turnover in the executive team.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Shutterfly
Pros – Fiscally responsible, intellectually challenging, opportunities to learn.
Cons – Politics, overly matrixed org leads to design by consensus.
Advice to Senior Management – Empower your subodinates, manage for growth, promote from within.

I have been working at Shutterfly
Pros – Management at the highest levels respect each other which trickles down throughout the organization. Expense reports always approved, quality of work more important than quality of work.
Cons – Budget approval process a bit opaque. People maybe too polite: people may not be as responsible as they should be.
Advice to Senior Management – Need to delegate some authority further down the chain. Needing to go to House to get a new hire approved is too tedious.

I have been working at Shutterfly
Pros – Great compensation
Great community involvement
Really good culture
Great work-life balance
Lots of interesting technical challenges. There are a lot of opportunities to shine technically.
Cons – The technical stack is more evolved than designed. This means that it has a lot of quirks and pitfalls, and can be frustrating to work with.
Advice to Senior Management – Focus more on the core technology and site stability and less on new features.

I have been working at Shutterfly
Pros – Flexible schedules, great people, a healthy work / life balance, and fun products make it a great place to work.
Cons – Dealing with legacy products and infrastructure can be painful. There is often not as much attention paid to rank and file as to the Director plus level.
Advice to Senior Management – Be quicker to to innovate and think outside the box. Be willing to get rid of legacy products and systems. Don't be afraid to rebuild and rethink.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
