I worked at Standard Chartered Bank

    Pros

The best reason I worked there is the atmosphere in the office. All staff in the office are equal, and they are very kind to each other.

    Cons

I have to assist a lot of people and take various tasks. This means that I have to learn a lot of new things quickly, which is very challenging to me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The staff should improve their efficiency of working.

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Clear focus on Asia Africa and middle east markets
Over all product offering and capability is just as good if not better than most top tier banks
Often compared to HSBC, much smaller bank, but better global capabilities
    Good risk management

    Cons

    Limited presence in the US
The bank's strategy can get in the way of good business, ie the bank may turn away business that does not have an large international component
Internal politics can be very active

    Pros

Benefits and pay are really nice. The base salary might be less than at other banks but the benefits and stock options are insanely generous

    Cons

I feel that the culture of the bank is very elitist

I have been working at Standard Chartered Bank full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work life balance, easy job, good pay and good benefit. A lots of trainings program and internal transfers opportunity.

    Cons

Top down management where the failure to make the strategy change. Much more is known about planning than doing, about strategy making than making strategy work. Senior management oftenly handled poorly and slow execution. Work for your network and relationship is how they value your performance hence your hardwork is not priority. Good people left and wrong people in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your best people and execution is the key to success. Clear goals for everyone in the company, that are supportive of the overall strategy; keep track the progress toward those goals on a regular basis; and clear accountability for that progress. Those are the basics. As for the product development, bottom-up approach can do well in business strategy at every country.
