    Pros

    Stable, dependable, predictable, honest, ethical.

    Cons

Slow to react to new industry trends, afraid of taking risks, slow advancement process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

State Farm is largely perceived as an old man's company. It needs a facelift both externally and internally.

I have been working at State Farm

    Pros

They make you feel like you're important. They encourage you to reach your full potential.

    Cons

I personally think your growth depends on the supervisor you are assigned. The benefits are VERY good, but not great ie: Medical insurance. Not easy to move up based on competition for the same role within the company. Lots of competition with well qualified people. Better have your sights set.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retention, retention, retention. Some of my coworkers are on the fence based on lack of comparable jobs to go to but if given the option, might consider leaving...

I have been working at State Farm full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a very easy product to sell because everybody needs it. Further, it feels pretty fulfilling selling something that protects people, so if you're looking to start your career in sales this is a great place to begin.

    Cons

It definitely has a cap as far as how much money you can make, because most agents don't pay much base salary at ALL and have a very limited commissions schedule. Also, your sales are only based on how much marketing your agent does so it's very hard to really max out your commissions if your agent isn't looking to seriously grow his or her agency. Further, there is no opportunity for promotion unless you choose to own your own agency which is VERY expensive and difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your employees. Pass along the first year commissions to your sales people, you have your whole lives to collect the residuals.

    I worked at State Farm

    Pros

    National brand recognition.
    Sales and service leader.
    Exceptional Claims service.
Salary and benefits package were very good.
Training and development was high and promotional opportunities within the company make it a good place to pursue a career.

    Cons

Difficult to move up in the company without moving around. Out of state opportunities are there but difficult to take advantage of if you have a family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop internally and continue to promote from within.

I worked at State Farm part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Best thing is that it is part time. It worked for me while I was pregnant but now I need full time and it's hard to get full time unless you want to work LATE.

    Cons

    Part time.
Slow calls during the week but a lot of calls on weekends. Oh yeah you have to work EVERY Saturday or Sunday. I hates this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management was good. I felt my manager really cared about me.

I have been working at State Farm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good. We are allowed to work overtime. Limited micromanagers but depends on manager.

    Cons

Unsure about future state means for us. Different schedule? Call center environment? Location? Bigger caseloads?

Decisions are obviously not made in consideration of the mass employees. Ex, location of where to house employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Personal performance evaluations ahould not be a consensus of what all other managers think. It should only be the manager and the representative.

Divide complex sectionsninto groups and compensate for such on an ascending scale. E,, complex departments should be compensated more money.
