enjoyable as a first job.

Sandwich Artist (Former Employee)
Melbourne

I worked at Subway part-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood staff benefits and cheap meals as a student on minimum wage, enjoyable colleagues of same age and interests

Consthe younger workers tend to be a bit less 'motivated' to work nowadays, which means they often call in sick. Some of the franchisees are just stress heads who are not nice to their employees - no respect.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease screen franchisees for their ability to work with people, especially highschool kids.

ConsHarder work and hours than you get payed for

Advice to Senior ManagementPick your franchisees carefully!!!

It was a simple job (if you only work as a casual in the food franchise) and the pay was reasonable

Sandwich Artist (Former Employee)
Canberra

I worked at Subway part-time for less than a year

ProsAs a subway sandwich artist: simple tasks, not that many procedures and complicated stuffs, hours are flexible, the pay is reasonable considering the nature of the job

ConsLots of upfront customer dealing, work can get strenuous and physically tiring (standing through all the shift with constant work: cleaning, preparing sandwiches), limited room for promotions or other job opportunity within subway.

best food even if you are ill or sick..

Sandwich Artist (Former Employee)
Melbourne

I worked at Subway part-time for less than a year

Proswhen i serve customer, i know in my heart that i am serving my customers fresh n hygenic food ..

Conssometime you get hot-cold when due to toaster, bread maker and cool room .

Advice to Senior Managementplease try to increase minimum pay scale. it should be atleast $19 at start. Because that is due to all the workers, subway is the biggest running franchise in food section

a great job to start out but don't hang around

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Adelaide

I worked at Subway

Pros- good colleagues and usually good in-store management
- quite a lot of independence and allowance for staff to take leading roles in opening, closing etc

Cons- treatment from store owners was not great
- employer sometimes ignored aspects like penalty rates, overtime; made it clear that staff were easily replaceable

Advice to Senior ManagementIf staff were looked after and remunerated better, it would result in less turnover, better performance and a wider pool of prospective new job applicants.

Ok if you're willing to take just any job.

General Hand (Former Employee)
Sydney

I worked at Subway

ProsFree food after your shift. You were allowed to take one 6 inch home at the end of every shift, but most people (including management) took two. This was one of the things that kept me working there.

ConsWage is absolute minimum and working on holidays does not have extra pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat the employees with a bit more respect in terms of wages, and they will serve food faster and work more efficiently.
