The people you work with make the job.

Applications Support (Current Employee)
Bethlehem, PA (US)

I have been working at SunGard full-time for more than 8 years

ProsWonderful people to work with.

ConsAdequate raises and bonuses are only given at the management level.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in the staff who are non-management. Family life, benefits and salary are not adequate to keep good employees around once the exonomy picks up.

Lots of potential if you work hard

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Burlington, MA (US)

I have been working at SunGard full-time for more than 3 years

ProsHigh visibility for accomplishments.
Mobility for those that work hard and work in a growing product/segment.
Most managers are very flexible with time and working remotely.

ConsBureaucracy of a normal large company(job reqs are approved after we need someone for a month, rather than a month before they are needed)

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good work life balance though a lot of micro management, and US focussed company

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
Pune (Brazil)

I have been working at SunGard full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood work life balance, one can get home at a decent time, spend time with family and kids, Work is technology driven, if you get your numbers, you make the cut, no nonsence..

ConsTends to be heavily reliant on US based market, not much by way of investment in product development as such, tend to be more sales and services driven.. Sr management tends to micro manage.. which leads to trust issues

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more hands on, understand what employees are looking for..

Prosgreat manager.. small team but everyone is awesome in helping you learn the product

Consnew team, not everyone knows products...some customers not happy... because team is small you will be on the road 100% Project managers are not that great at their jobs but again everyone is new..

Advice to Senior Managementmore team training,. don't over pack the schedules...consultants need down time...

Good company to work for.

Technology Consultant (Former Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I worked at SunGard full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood work/life balance. Opportunity for promotion/recognition if you put in the work. Vacation days above average for the US. Could get more sick days.

ConsHowever, in terms of actual positions to go up the chain, it is limited unless you count on employee turnover. It is more and more acting like a "big company". Bureaucracy is growing.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to basics. Streamline the bureaucracy.

Company Is Falling Apart

Sales Executive (Current Employee)
New York, NY (US)

I have been working at SunGard full-time for more than 5 years

ProsKnowledgeable people, global presence, name recognition

ConsOn-going cost and benefits reduction program (going on for 5 years), lack of investment into product development, no collaboration between product groups, impossible to fulfill quotas, new commission plan has lower payouts, high turn-over, just announced up-coming head count reduction because they have not met thier financial projections, management is only focused on thier budget and spreadsheets,

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your products and people. You neglect both

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
