    Pros

    Decent pay, diversity of people due to multiple acquisitions, global reach, good training and incentives for sales people. Some segments are doing very well with above par products and people.

    Cons

    Too conservative on innovation, lack of investment and ambition on R&D, synergies between various segments very limited. One weak segment can drag the reputation of the whole company down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Limit the reach and size and stick to what SunGard does best: Back and Middle Office, Accounting systems and Risk spin-off or sell under performing segments.

    Ability to travel and meet other people

    Disorganized upper management. Low employee morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work with one another across teams. Listen to the employees.
    Stop taking away benefits and then try to make it seem like it is in the best interest of the employees. There have been minimal raises in the last 6 years. Combine that with more out of pocket expenses for less benefits and employees are making less than they did years before.

    Pros

    If you are lucky to have descent leadership at the top of your segment, there may be hope albeit with a short window until the ownership change happens - and it is happening. Long term career, nope. Runway - 12-24 months. It's been 10 years since the LBO and the PE owners will want the "event" to happen so they can cash in on this line item in the portfolio that has been a huge under performer and invest in other things.

    Cons

    The once entrepreneurial spirit and leadership is completely gone and left are the very few who decide on a day by day basis to jump ship. The Segments do not work together, the administrative work as well as the procedures are disparate and gotten to the point of silly. Couple that with a lack of focus on the delivery, Project Management and Investment and the ship is sinking. Clients are leaving and the reputation that was once stellar has gone to poor and "steer clear."

    Cash in and get this over with, get the roadshows going so the pain ends for all.

    Pros

    The view of Jacksonville is beautiful!

    Cons

    Executive management only cares about the sales team.
    The other teams are constantly being told how much their efforts to withstand the system and process frustrations are appreciated.
    Large system improvement projects are consistently put on hold for incidents, defects and sales support.

    Pros

    Good work-life balance, not very documentation oreinted, good health insurance, descent benefits.

    Cons

    Company is still growing, so not so many clients. Energy division is altogether different than Consulting. Consulting comprises of small set of team where as Energy divsion is just like a big company. Make sure you know where you are joining and make appropriate decision.

    Pros

    The atmosphere in the office was very relaxed. My coworkers were great to work with. Compensation was fair for the work required. The benefits were better than anticipated although cost did go up towards the end of my journey there.

    Cons

    Hours were long and we had to schedule around various customers time zones which was not always ideal. Travel to places most people would not want to visit was required.

    This is difficult because the company is owned by private equity......they are going to do what they have to do to make their money and get out.

    Pros

    Everyone seem to work without much emphasis on ranks or seniority. Very cooperative in that sense

    Cons

    Can be isolating as majority are of a particular nationality and they tend to always talk in their native language.....not too good esp u are always left out..... And u are unaware of

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve sales process and customer management. Often end up having to sucumb to customer demands even when sometimes its unreasonable.

    I worked at SunGard

    Pros

    Good salary, flexible hours and work from home opportunities (for some), good work-life balance, some very talented, driven and friendly people, a drive to move to lean and agile project management and engineering practices, nice bright and modern offices (before move out of Midtown).

    Cons

    Benefits squeezed down year after year, little to no bonus payments, flat structure leading to limited career growth opportunities, some staff were not up to par but somehow managed to avoid staff cuts while talented people were lost, questionable standard of work from offshore office, little real synergy between product groups or business units.

    SunGard is not as well known in the industry as it should be, and where it is known it is because of one specific product and not for the company as a whole. Working for SunGard doesn't come with as high a reputation that it deserves.

    SunGard is a sales focused company. If you are not working directly in sales you will be second-class in the company.

    This is a very large company and senior management can appear to be out of touch with individual contributors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do more to promote the SunGard brand as a whole. Keep a high bar when hiring and don't be afraid to get rid of dead wood (but make sure it is the right people). Think long term when moving work offshore; is it really the right thing to move work offshore when it takes two to do the job of one onshore person and quality is compromised? Don't scrimp on benefits and bonuses; you will lose talent to competitors. Have a consistent and fair work from home policy. Don't focus so much on sales as a primary goal; focus on quality first and sales will come.
