Good Sales Methodology and follow up, weak on R&D and overall motivation of staff

    Senior Manager (Former Employee) Sydney

ProsDecent pay, diversity of people due to multiple acquisitions, global reach, good training and incentives for sales people. Some segments are doing very well with above par products and people.

ConsToo conservative on innovation, lack of investment and ambition on R&D, synergies between various segments very limited. One weak segment can drag the reputation of the whole company down.

Advice to Senior ManagementLimit the reach and size and stick to what SunGard does best: Back and Middle Office, Accounting systems and Risk spin-off or sell under performing segments.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good company to settle down. Not sure after the acquisition by Datatel

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Bangalore (India)

ProsThe higher education sector - Laid back, Life - Work balance (i know), excellent opportunities for learning for freshers, safe for women

ConsThe typical in any small organization. long term-ers and politicians.. as long as you are not wronging anyone, it's a good organization to be there.

The worst VFP Programming Code I have ever worked with (Public Sector)

    Software Developer III (Former Employee)

ProsThe people were great to work with. However, there was very little communication with your immediate supervisor or managers. An 8-5 job so they didn't expect long hours. That is a good thing because any more time spent in front of the some of the sloppiest program code on the planet was enough to drive you insane.

ConsOn your first day they sit you in front of a computer expecting you to unravel spaghetti code. It was a nightmare. I dreaded going to work every day.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time with your people. Have new developers team up with developers that have been there for a while (the ones that could handle the piece of crap programming code) and at least show them what they are getting into. Actually, maybe they should sit down with potential developer candidates but then they may not be able to hire any VFP developers.

Consultant (Current Employee) Houston, TX (US)

ProsThey offered more than I expected. Office culture seems to be very laid back.

ConsI haven't started working yet so I have none to speak of so far

    ProsExcellent work life balance
    Flexibility
    Good remuneration
    Open environment

    ConsLack of career path
    Needs to be more dynamic

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to provide more challenges and vision to the staff which has the capacity to deliver much more than it has.

Great place to work in at the start of your career with excellent work life balance and opportunities. Fairly flat organ

Project Consultant (Current Employee) Oxford, England (UK)

ProsA fantastic place to start your career and learn from one of the most highly skilled staff in the industry. Great opportunities to pick or choose the work that you would be interested in and given responsibilities straight away. Good work-life balance with flexible work times as long as you finish the tasks assigned on time.

ConsBenefits don't tend to go up with the amount of experience you gain. Depending on which segment you are on, there is little opportunity to go to different products, move up in the organisation and expand your horizons.

    Interesting Diversity of colleagues

Specialist-Product Development (Current Employee) Bangalore (India)

ProsSense of ownership over product development and deliveries.
    Work life balance.
Initiation of new technology adoptions in financial world and opportunity to explore free thoughts during sessions like hackathons.

ConsLack of centralized resources to learn about other products being developed in the other parts of the world.

The company is not what it used to be

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere are still some good projects to work on.

ConsManagement really doesn't care about employees. Pay is becoming lower and lower day by day. This company used to be among the best paying ones, now sadly, even TCS can pay better than them.

Advice to Senior ManagementGain back your clientbase.
