I worked at SunGard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

As an organization they appear to be switching from a strategy of growth through acquisition to one of integration and business development. This is encouraging to see. Now developing core technology strategy and communicating to staff more often. Proactive management development programs. Promoting environmental awareness.

    Cons

Need less of a focus on lean management principles. Pushing a lot of work offshore which will reduce their ability to support local clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The leadership have a clear vision and are moving towards it. The strategy change may be a little jarring for staff but I think the company will become stronger for it.

I worked at SunGard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people in my former business unit are talented, hardworking, and resourceful. They routinely faced and conquered a mountain of industry and client led deliveries with limited resources. Benefits were good. Vacation policy is outstanding - up to five weeks off depending on your tenure. Ability to telecommute once a week was also a plus. Depending on your position, a good work/life balance is possible.

    Cons

Compensation is below industry standards. Business unit leadership has a lack of appreciation for efforts required to successfully support certain products and clients. Office morale is dismal. Quality work is often not rewarded or even recognized in a significant way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The pool of raise/bonus money allocated yearly for business units to divide among the many deserving employees is insufficient. The yearly review process is terrible. Career opportunities are lacking.

I worked at SunGard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Work culture is comfortable and flexible. Depending on the teams you work for, sometimes work is challenging and a good learning.

    Cons

Team lack coordination when individuals work out of different locations. Its not always favourable.
Budget constraints is often a reason quoted, be it for bonus/compensation, recruitments, travel, etc.

I have been working at SunGard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Very good benefits package including vacation accrual and tuition reimbursement and work/life is good depending on your location.

    Cons

It depends on your location and your manager, as in any company. some divisions have alot of attention directed to them and their product is kept up to date. others are not actively supported and they end up getting laid off and / or their office closes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wish it was more structured in terms of pay increases but I think they have made small steps in the right direction.

Current Employee - Customer Service in Singapore (Singapore)

I have been working at SunGard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great organisation to sell for. Perk, power and money.

Dwindling pockets of professional, dedicated and individual contributors.

    Cons

Fanciful marketing programs that creates an illusion of career progression to lure in fresh graduates. The reality is that fresh graduates are meant to be cheap and disposable meat-shield to be thrown in front of clients.

Work-life balance is non existent. Most projects are in death-march mode, customer support consist of being abused by client and trash talked by middle-management for not managing client expectation.

Increasing sales presence thanks need to juice up balance sheet in preparation for IPO. Think 2 Sales to 1 Project resource. Strong process in place to assure revenue so that senior management can move on to the next cash cow.

If you are a potential customer, be very careful. You will be misled. Check multiple reference through your own network and not just the ones provided by the sales. Check where the reference is working after the deal is closed.

Company reorganisation, followed by retrenchment, is a annual event. The thinning middle management has led to growing psychological pressure imposed onto rank and file.

    Cons

Sometimes expectations from mgmt are too high. Can't perform miracles for free! W/L Balance is a challenge

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
