Former Employee – worked at Symantec full-time for more than 7 years

ProsEveryone have their own task to do. Collaboration is not easy but not very challenging either.

ConsCompany become massive thru M&A. Very little room to move around.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote your best people and cut the non-performer. Make Symantec lean again.

Current Employee – been working at Symantec full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat vision for the future which is inspiring and something I would love to be a part of. A lot of changes are on their way which will be greatly welcomed by all

ConsCannot seem to integrate their acquisitions and thus creates pain in the market from a back end perspective.
Boys club! Need more balance in male/female

Advice to Senior ManagementIntegration needs to occur ASAP, but it's already in the process so looking forward to seeing the results.

Current Employee – been working at Symantec full-time for more than 7 years

ProsWell established company with lots of policies to follow. It's very easy to work there and the managers are generally friendly. Dev people usually have enough time to finish projects and only few over-time work. Company also has lots of internal training courses - both career development and technical stuff. Depends on the team's nature, you may have the options to work at home quite frequently.

ConsHowever the operation of development on consumer security and enterprise management products in Australia is shrinking, they lay off people every year. And due to the nature of IT and security business in Australia, it's not easy to transfer the knowledge you learn there to your next employer.

Advice to Senior ManagementAlthough there are lots surveys for the employees to give feedbacks, the management did not do well to secure the jobs for people who work for them. This really disappoint people and let some talents down.

Sydney

Former Employee – worked at Symantec full-time

ProsLarge American computer company.

Advertised as the fourth largest in the world.

Working for them in America could be pleasant experience.

ConsFunction of the business seems to be focused upon short term outlooks. Lots of hot air around "Core Business".

Product lifecycles are short "somewhere in the "DOG" quadrant"; rapid acquisition and assimilation of 3rd party products leads to a RAD approach in delivery and reliance on support personnel and poorly remunerated customer facing roles.

"Wipping" Boy approach to Corporate Responsibility.

Vertically integrated business functions forms for an inbred and near sighted career contribution to a resume (very inward looking), difficult to transfer other roles.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry leading by example.

ProsOpportunity for company to fix the external perception or the company and also opportunity to get more of the hidden value reflecting on the share price.

ConsA lot of change for it employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemember, the empoyees are the ones that make or break the company. So invest in the Company employees to seek the rewards you are looking for.

Former Employee – worked at Symantec full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat products truly leading edge, good work life balance, great people.

ConsCompany has lost its way in recent times, too focused on share price and not on growing to company and providing highest quality more about how to provide the cheapest service.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet back to providing quality service not the cheapest service to your customers.

Prosfree private health care, and restricted stock grants

Applause program where you can nominate co workers for freeebies such as gift cards

sounds like a respectable place to work in the outside

ConsNo vision or leadership.

No innovation, it simply aquires the companies with technologies of interest, before destroying the IP of those technologies by replacing the original developers with cheaper ones off shore.

seems to succeed in spite of its self...

Advice to Senior Managementbreak down the silo culture between divisions
when you aquire your next product, try and improve it instead of ruin it
