Former Employee – worked at Teekay full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – One of the most international companies based in Vancouver, BC, with a truly global presence. Smart and driven management, who also seem to care about the well-being of staff. Interesting industry and market leader position within that industry. Great reputation within the industry.
Cons – Investor-driven rather than customer driven. Investors are the target customers, and the company is increasingly run like an investment fund rather than an operating company. Very much a banking perspective on business - which makes sense since the company is run by a banker. This is negative, but only really if you would rather be in a strong customer-focused operating environment.
At / below market pay for Vancouver, but horribly under-paid on an international basis, which is where most of their competition is from. Limited upside for career progression - most younger employees have to leave for advancement, which is too bad since the rest of the company is solid.
Advice to Senior Management – Consider how financially-driven you are. It may make sense from an investor standpoint, but is it the right way to run what is still, in essence, an operating company with customers? Look at how you move younger employees through the organization, and how many you've lost along the way to international firms that actually provide competitive pay. Aside from that, keep it up.

Former Employee – worked at Teekay full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Excellent employee benefits, good bonus and company pension plan. Fresh fruit weekly and office support staff are very helpful.
Cons – Internal employees are not valued as much as externally recruited employees. No commitment to promotion from within. Lacking feedback and progression planning.
A lot of overtime is expected. Not much work/life balance.
Advice to Senior Management – Departmental heads to review internal employees' potential for growth and promotion within the company.

Former Employee – worked at Teekay full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great benefits, nice sincere people to work with
Cons – Terrible communication within the company, the CEO does not know how to interact with his employees. Unfortunately CEO and management does not execute communication properly within the company. CEO does not have people skills and comes off as untrustworthy. Just check the employee surveys to confirm this.
Advice to Senior Management – Losing great talent to the competition should be something to think about. What was once a world class company is now an average run of the mill organization.
