    Cons

The lack of support from fellow nurses

  2. Accounting Clerk

I have been working at UCLA part-time

    Pros

The job has good hours, decent pay, free food from catering events, mostly collegial atmosphere among other things.

    Cons

UCLA also has unreliable management and sometimes mind-numbing tasks, such as cleaning a microwave for grown adults who don't seem to act their age.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the competitive pay and experience. It may be better to treat your part-time workers like actual human beings worthy of respect and feeling like they belong.

    Pros

Working in research in a major university, great people, primarily you keep your own hours

    Cons

HR is ( or more accurately is not) handed at the department rather than centrally so your support is haphazard at best

    Advice to Management

HR has been underfunded for years and it is starting to show.

    Pros

IT is generally decentralized at UCLA, which means you may be working on a small group and have a lot of input on the direction of your projects. The campus is beautiful and most people who work there are great. Work/life balance is excellent. There are several technology groups and professional development programs that can help you from feeling locked away in your tiny department.

    Cons

Because of the decentralization of IT, it can be difficult to learn from co-workers or to move up in the organization. Promotion is often diagonal into another department, which may have drastically different culture. Some employees are complacent and not interested enough in doing great work.

    Advice to Management

Standardize and centralize things a bit more. Have Programmer/Analysts work in somewhat larger teams. This will allow for mentor-ship, better software, and happier employees.

    Pros

Friendly environment. Good people. Collaborative atmosphere, equipment and reagent sharing makes experimentation easier. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Food options are poor in general, but after 4 years, they become unbearable. Lunch-time is always a problem. I waste a lot of time being too hungry to work. Thank goodness they sell raw unsalted almonds - even the zombie work-study undergrads can't ruin those. Westwood traffic and parking make it impossible to routinely get a good bite to eat.
Pay is low. Its only enough if you don't have a family or other financial obligations. You'll be paying rent on a shared apartment well into your 30's.

    Pros

Great opportunity to be a student here since I am able to broaden my horizon with other students who have great visions.

    Cons

The competition is pretty intense. Also sometimes the workload is huge. Some professors are not concerned with their students.

    Advice to Management

Students should have more chances to do individual projects or researches. Meanwhile there should be more programs aims at preparing for professional life.
