    Pros

The DOD is very aggressive in encouraging and funding training for professional development.

    Cons

Technical jobs are typically at field activities, which typically requires frequent travel for developing technical skills.

    Advice to Management

There are a lot of mandatory training. I suggest management reduce the mandatory training requirement.

    Pros

    Good leave package.
There are very good health benefit options.

    Cons

Little to no room for advancement.
Managers seem as though they could care less about the little guys.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the people at the bottom that make people at the top look good.

    Pros

A lot of clout to accomplish goals of engagement and unfluence coalition and NATO forces. Usually with good intention.

    Cons

Good intention is often misguided by Politicians and officials who have no clear understanding of the idiocyncracies of local culture and cultural standards and acceptability.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the advice of the boots you have on the ground.

  7. Limited movement, unless one is a minority or veteran.

    Pros

    Good benefits and competitive pay

    Cons

Limited mobility. Unable to maintain a job, even if well qualified, unless person has veteran status. I was unable to serve in the military due to vision, but I was unable to compete for a job I had for four years because I did not have veteran status. A veteran with minimum qualifications will beat a current employee, who is not a vet, with maximum qualifications

    Advice to Management

It would be best to hire the best person for the job and not simply hire a veteran. I understand the push for employing veterans, but sending a productive employee with four years of excellent reviews to unemployment to replace them with a veteran who has not had any experience in the field may not be best for the office environment.

    Pros

-A steady paycheck, unless the government shuts down.

    Cons

    -The ceiling is very visible
-Far too many restrictions and lack of innovation
-Quality of life is an afterthought
-Many of the other employees I see daily actively or passively (through body language) express their dissatisfaction with their jobs, yet won't do anything about it. That's a bad culture in my opinion.

    Advice to Management

My management in my organization is great. They unfortunately have to execute decisions made at far higher levels than theirs.
