Former Employee - Customer Account Executive in Leatherhead, England (UK)

I worked at Unilever as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Benefit from both large-company training and small-team support and visibility
    Very good feedback mechanisms
Opportunity to expand or change your role in line with your interests as well as business needs
Nice office, and free ice cream (Leatherhead office)!
    Staff shop
    Gym and gym classes
    Generally great work atmosphere
Loads of different academic/ business backgrounds within teams
Has been great to discuss in grad scheme interviews

    Cons

Experience depends quite a lot on how hands-on/ friendly your line manager is!
You don't have input into which team you join
Work can sometimes be dull, data entry etc (true of most internships anywhere)
You should love (or say you love) Unilever products, P&G is not looked on favourably

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recruit more of your interns onto the grad scheme, many other FMCG internships take almost all of theirs as they've invested so much in training them

    - very advanced process
    - following new trends
    - all the time changes to grow and be competivie

    Cons

    - centralization makes less possibilities to create own ideas
    - business orientation and vision created in top-down stream what makes people hard to believe and follow in a vision which out of their reality.

Former Employee - Retail Supply Chain in Leatherhead, England (UK)

    I worked at Unilever

    Pros

Treat staff like equals. Respect and listen to staff. Give good bonuses. Allow flexibility in the working day, for example many staff work over-time; if you need a couple of hours to visit the dentist/take a longer lunch break to run errands, managers are ok with this.
Gives staff personal responsibility/ownership of their workload.

    Cons

Huge company - can be difficult to engage well with other teams. Progression routes are limited from non-management into management levels.
High pressure, but comes hand in hand with staff being able to take personal ownership/responsibility for their work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Open up more progression routes.
Reduce work-time stress by supporting staff to decide what is critical and what is not.

Current Employee - Handling Engineering Projects Within the Supply Chain Network in Jakarta (Indonesia)

I have been working at Unilever full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

abundant knowledge and opportunity to learn from professional , especially when you connect to the right people
extensive responsibility means you stretch yourself to the furthest limit
global network means you are exposed to working globally , at least multicultural
work-life balance and open mindness are things that everyone in the organization appreciate

    Cons

changes happen in considerable amount, making a redundancy in effort, sometimes wasted
lip service, system made sometimes for the sake of cosmetic instead of touching essential issue. The irony, those who usually did that manage to sit higher
not the best benefit in its class

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be confident on your judgement, instead of following the system or boss
