Current Employee – been working at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Being able to work from home
Cons – Low or no raises even though dept makes billions per year in profits, managers with no experience or training, constant nitpicking, terrible job aids, information sometimes impossible to find, rules change daily, terrible insurance--just like Medicare; 80/20 with high deductibles. Outsources jobs to India using taxpayer dollars. If you're a drone and don't mind being forced to do things you know are incorrect, this is the place for you.
Advice to Senior Management – Hire people with appropriate experience and training.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Try to give raises every year (and some bonus).
Cons – After 6 1/2 years of devotion and only missing one day of work because of having to go into the hospital (unexpectedly). The company really doesn't care and closes the office you are working in and instead of letting you telecommute like every other person in the same office you get laid off!!!!!!!!!
Advice to Senior Management – Care more about employees as you claim to care about members (they are members too).

Current Employee – been working at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for more than a year
Pros – Having a job during tough economic times
Cons – Mass confusion, extreme pressure in a call center, supervisors have their positions without knowledge of how to ethically treat people on the floor, discrimination! It is well known because the Supervisors will tell you " in order to move up at uhc you need to network yourself and be liked". I was appauled that that sentence was even spoken. They play favorites with which employees do the most for them the " sups"
Advice to Senior Management – Be more aware of your management you have in place. If you wou
ld speak to employees instead, of putting "restrictions" on us (fear of job loss) you would have happier employees. Take the time to ask us about our work environment in private not a ROUND TABLE meeting!

Current Employee – been working at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for more than a year
Pros – You get health insurance when you work for them. Its not great but its something.
Cons – Where to start? Bad management, terrible morale, most folks are walking around as though someone died. They try to hire as many non-U.S. born Filipinos as possible so that they can take advantage of their work ethic and tendency to abuse without complaint or wage increases. Poor management team that implements half-baked best practices that ultimately fail and they then blame the employee. I have never worked with so many obese people in my life and I think that contributed to the weekly call of the ambulance and paramedics.
Advice to Senior Management – Develop some kind of coherent management style and really try to connect with your employees and subscribers. Do your homework about what really works and what does not instead of applying shoddy ideas and methods that you have no clue will work or not. Try and really put forth some effort when you are designing best practices for your employees versus half-cooked ideas that ultimately fail in their goal and drive company morale way down. Also implement some kind of fitness program as I have never worked with so many morbidly obese people in my life. I am sure this contributed to the once a week visit from paramedics.

Former Employee – worked at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for more than a year
Pros – The company values it employees and provides a great working environment with a focus on work life balance.
Cons – The growth value is very stagnant in terms of what you can apply for on the job experience. If something can be done simpler, faster and better why not?
Advice to Senior Management – No comments come to mind.

Current Employee – been working at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – They're really into Affermative Action.
Cons – UnitedHealthcare does not promote the best and brightest. Impossible to get through to the CEO, Gail. She has quite an armada of gate keepers so she is definitely out of touch with front line employees and United Healthcare subscribers' needs.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't be threatened if there are others brighter and more competent. Promote them, get them off your team and create an ally in the new department where you've placed your promoted employee. That's a win - win solution.

Former Employee – worked at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for more than a year
Pros – Very nice on-site gym facility with a nice view of a wooded area. Also, I was impressed with the cafeteria that was also on-site.
Cons – Zero work life balance and no camaderie among employees of our department. Only focus was on meeting deadlines not on quality. It seemed that our my manager was as stressed as our department.
Advice to Senior Management – Get your nose out your books and spreadsheets and really talk to employees. Do not rely employee surveys...the questions are written in a way to skew the results so things seems positive.

Current Employee – been working at United Healthcare Insurance full-time for less than a year
Pros – UHC is always changing and is very innovative. Pay is okay, and benefits are good.
Cons – It is really big. There are a lot of managers, and it feels big. For the most part, my job is very repetitive, but still challenging at times.
Advice to Senior Management – Ask employees for innovative ideas.
