Former Employee – worked at Xerox part-time for less than a year

ProsRelaxed atmosphere, busy days make the time fly, After a few months you can handle anything that is called in for repair.

ConsLots of clutter. No advancement possible. Almost never hiring, a family member usually steps in.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to get more organized. Work harder to keep the customers happy.

Rochester, NY (US)

Current Employee – been working at Xerox full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSome pockets of great talent and groups

ConsConstant memos on cost controls but you do see an unbalanced spending for really lower value add activities (e.g. roadshows, marketing events, etc.) A very disparate salary scale and they take advantage of the middle-grade employees. Many small perks are slowly deteriorating to the point of below average of market (e.g. pay for your own parking, decrease in matching 401k) . Very old-school thinking and infrastructure, especially IT. Not cohesive and out-dated IT infrastructure and strategy. As with all large companies, all things move slowly. HR is a hinderance to progress. Many people stay because all the good people end up leaving so that the bottom feeders stay to become top managers. Finally, the C-suite is for lack of better words, arrogant and ignorant to the employees and incredibly de-motivating.

Advice to Senior ManagementA new, smarter and visionary CEO like a Louis Gerstner is needed.

Current Employee – been working at Xerox full-time for more than 3 years

ProsYou have some really good people here, don't let management short comings interfere!

ConsAlthough the company has been profitable, "worker bees" haven't been properly taken care of. Promised bonuses have not been paid or when paid, short paid. You can't off shore all jobs, and that is always management's 1st instinct to save costs.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn what your employees actually do. You have good people busting their butts, because they are professionals, but not recognizing their accomplishments, achievements and the value they bring to your organization will cause you to lose the driving forces of your engagements. Give your employees the tools that they need to be successful. Leverage your in-house expertise and market those services to new clients, but in order to do that you again need to understand what it is that your people do.

Wilsonville, OR (US)

Former Employee – worked at Xerox full-time for more than 10 years

ProsMost of the working level people in engineering are bright, talented, and great to work with.

ConsManagement from top to bottom, in most cases is terribly incompetent and just waiting to retire.
Ursula Burns is the most clueless and cocky CEO in the Fortune 500, who has completely destroyed the once great culture and camaraderie that existed within the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'm not going to waste my breath since they are either too stupid or too arrogant to take advice from others.

Nashville, TN (US)

Current Employee – been working at Xerox full-time for less than a year

ProsWork from home, hours are some what flexible, secure job, decent Paid time off

ConsVery boring after the first month you realize you are just repeating yourself day in and day out. Company had mandatory overtime that never seems to stop. Been working there 6 months and I have worked a 12 hour shift every Monday

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer more in pay I know you want the best but you make it tough to keep a decent paycheck especially when it is slow

Webster, NY (US)

Current Employee – been working at Xerox full-time for more than 10 years

ProsMost of the people you work with day-to-day are high-quality and committed to doing their best.
Still some opportunities for product development.
Expected growth for services-related work.

ConsMove from "image on paper" products to services is taking over.
Future for product development is questionable.
Little in terms of growth opportunities over the past several years.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe clear/honest about future of product development.

Former Employee – worked at Xerox full-time for more than 10 years

ProsWith over 10 years In Sales and sales management, I cannot think of any Pros. Employees are regularly screwed in compensation, raises are non existent even for top performers as I was.

ConsUrsula has turned her back on technology, they are outsourcing nearly all manufacturing, cut most R/D talent, and are more concerned about long term deals in areas such as parking, tolls than its roots in solving real life business problems. Xerox used to be know as a TOP 100 place to work but that is history. It USED to be known as a great place for developing sales talent, but the talent has left the business leaving mostly lifers who think they Re too lose to retirement to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire Ursula, she takes all the raises and bonuses and screws over the tactical employees who generate the revenue. She has ZERO people skills which as a CEO are critical. She is a JOKE
