I have been working at Xilinx full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company is growing. I was in the software tools team and the work was pretty interesting. A lot of smart and dedicated people.

    Cons

The work was too unstructured and not enough planning. Ended up doing a lot of fire fighting.

I worked at Xilinx full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Fair pay and good benefits

    Cons

People don’t count, very political and exclusive, no loyalty everyone is trying to climb the corporate ladder and stepping on any one they can. Executive management is arrogant and that trickles down to middle management.

I have been working at Xilinx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Get to work with very capable colleagues.
    - Manager was very approachable.
    - Flexible working environment, no micro-managing and given the freedom to find our own solutions.

    Cons

    - slow growth
    - limited learning opportunities outside assigned tasks due to tight schedules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - There is a little bit of a feeling of a disconnect between senior management and junior level employees.
    - Management does not seem very transparent about retrenchments and reorganisations. This does not go well with employees.

I have been working at Xilinx full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pays well and good bonuses. Work is interesting and leading edge.

    Cons

Adopted American sweat shop mentality, which is fine if they only want you to stay a few years and move on to a new company but this is not the European way.
FPGA technology is expensive and the company is having a tougher time competing against the ASIC guys as they integrate more and more functionality on chip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loosen up and trust your employees more.

I have been working at Xilinx full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience. You get to learn and be exposed to a lot. Every day is different and exciting. They promote continuing to build on yourself. The Senior VPs are great leaders.

    Cons

Too much red tape and bureaucracy. The hours are ridiculous and your managers don't care about that. Salary and work distribution is unfair. Too much old technology at the company considering it is all about tech.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to ditch favoritism - it's not a good look. Commend and recognize your employees when they do a good job.

    Pros

Advanced technology in a great niche

    Cons

For marketing this place is nearly impossible. It is so engineering driven that no real marketing takes place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more power and authority to marketing. Make them own the business like most other companies do when they get larger.
